With a dynamic team, we are scaling rapidly and need a seasoned
Data Engineer/Architect to build and maintain a cutting-edge data warehouse/lakehouse from the ground up.
We want ESG MATURITY to be the world's most used platform for ESG management, and to be best information hub for ESG data, KPI's and insights.
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer/Architect to spearhead the development of our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in creating scalable data warehouses/lakehouses and will be responsible for recommending and implementing the best database management tools. You will play a critical role in our data strategy, ensuring scalability, reliability and performance as our data grows significantly to larger volumes. You'll work closely with other Data Science professionals and deliver solutions for a variety of different stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, develop, and maintain a robust and scalable data warehouse/lakehouse from scratch;
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate database management tools and technologies tailored to our needs;
- Design and implement ETL/ELT processes to ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and ensure data quality and integrity;
- Optimize data models for performance and scalability to handle exponential data growth;
- Implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance;
- Develop and maintain business intelligence solutions, to deliver actionable business insights;
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the data architecture, processes and procedures;
- Mentor and guide junior data engineers and provide technical leadership.
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer/Architect, with a strong track record in designing and building data warehouses/lakehouses;
- Data Transformation: Proficiency in dbt (data build tool) for data transformations and modeling;
- SQL and Relational Databases: Extensive experience with SQL and relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server, including writing complex queries, optimizing performance, and managing schemas;
- Cloud-based Data Warehousing: Expertise in cloud-based data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Azure Synapse. Ability to design scalable and cost-efficient architectures in the cloud;
- Programming Languages: Strong programming skills in Python and/or Java, including experience with libraries and frameworks relevant to data engineering (e.g., Pandas, PySpark);
- ETL/ELT Tools: Experience with ETL/ELT tools such as Apache Airflow, Talend, or similar, including designing workflows, scheduling jobs, and monitoring data pipelines;
- Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with big data technologies like Apache Spark, Hadoop, and Kafka, including experience with data processing, real-time streaming, and batch processing;
- Data Modeling: Knowledge of data modeling techniques and best practices, including star schema, snowflake schema, and data vault;
- Data Governance and Security: Understanding of data governance frameworks, security practices, and compliance requirements, including data encryption, masking, and role-based access control;
- Version Control Systems: Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews;
- Business Intelligence: Experience in developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions, with the aim of creating a strong reporting framework to deliver business insights;
- CI/CD: Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for data engineering workflows, using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI;
- Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in data engineering, and recommend new tools and techniques to improve our data infrastructure and processes;
- Implement data governance, data quality, and data security best practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and privacy compliance, contributing for the C-MORE’s ISMS – Information Security Management System and other internal standards and governance;
- Proactively support in solving internal or external challenges within your area of expertise, fostering a culture of collaboration and openness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience in data engineering, with a focus on data warehouse and lakehouse architecture;
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field;
- Experience in a startup environment or with rapidly scaling companies is a huge plus;
- Knowledge of additional data transformation tools and frameworks;
- Experience with machine learning pipelines and integration with data warehouses;
- Familiarity with data visualization and BI tools (e.g. Power BI);
- Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or data engineering.
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically;
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills;
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to data quality and accuracy;
- Enjoy startup's fast-paced environment and demand for excellence;
- Fluent (speaking and writing) English is a must. Portuguese or Spanish are highly appreciated - crucial for Openness and Collaboration in our diverse, global team;
