Overview:

Behavioral Health Therapist IIs are eligible for a signing bonus up to $5,000 at qualifying locations!

 

Novant Health is seeking an experienced Therapist II for our clinical team on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Forsyth Medical Center. The Therapist’s primary role is to complete psychosocial assessments, plans for therapeutic interventions and appropriate follow up care, implementing treatment plans, coordination of the treatment process and discharge planning. Also demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age and cultural diversity of the patients served. In addition, the therapist will uphold and demonstrate the Novant Mission, Vision and Values: Compassion, Diversity, Personal Excellence, and Teamwork.

 

A Therapist in this position must be able to adapt to each unique client, as well as display proficient knowledge and experience in implementing and coordinating individualized treatment plans for each patient while considering various age groups (18+), levels of acuity, and Mental Health and/or Substance use disorders. Previous experience in the hospital setting, community mental health, or with crisis response would be highly valuable in this role.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate degree, required. Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field.
  • Experience: Two years Serving individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders, required.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration:
    • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Clinician, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Clinic Psychologist (not required for substance use therapist roles in Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and BH hospital based departments.
    • For the Substance Use Therapist role, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist or Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate. This specific license is limited to our hospital based departments that treat patients with substance use disorders, required. 
    • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions within 3 months of hire. Team members in strictly remote positions are exempt. Team members working strictly in behavioral health outpatient clinics are exempt from state approved curricula but are required to take NEC0170 De-escalation Techniques and Effective Communication Strategies within 3 months of hire. 
    • Involuntary Commitment Examiner (preferred for Inpatient; required for BH Access within one year of hire), required.
    • Notary Public, preferred.
  • Additional Skills Required: Good working knowledge of computers. Ability to care for Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Age Specific populations.
Responsibilities:
  • Delivers on-site care to a caseload of Behavioral Health patients in the acute care setting completing clinical assessments and determining level of care and treatment interventions using current diagnostic guidelines.
  • Provides further clinical interventions including 1:1 brief solution focused interventions, group therapy using evidence based practices, and conducting family meetings as needed
  • Demonstrates proficiency in working with individuals of various ages, diagnoses, and levels of acuity requiring a strong foundation of knowledge in both substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Works collaboratively with each patient and an interdisciplinary team to identify current treatment as well as aftercare needs and execute the safe discharge plan established based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Utilizes knowledge of various levels of care and current community resources in order to connect each patient with appropriate support in the community to best promote ongoing recovery. Secures aftercare appointments, verifies living arrangements, facilitates placement in other long-term facilities as needed, and arranges patient transport.
  • Complies with required standards for timely and through documentation as well as for medical/legal reporting situations. Assists with Involuntary/Voluntary commitment process when indicated and assures that treatment provided is in accordance with EMTALA regulations.
  • Participates on the Psychiatric Rapid Response Team to assist in de-escalation of patients in other areas of the hospital during behavioral health crises.
  • Establishes and maintains knowledge of processes such as petitioning for guardianship and navigating the Medicare appeals process.
  • Willingness to cross train between Inpatient and Emergency Departments to assist during periods of need.
  • Communicates individualized plan of care and patient’s progress toward goals to all members of the care team including the patient and his/her chosen support system/legal guardian/Care Coordinator.
  • Escalates complex cases and engages in complex case meetings involving outside departments for guidance in patient care and discharge coordination.
