About The Organization

The Women's Equality Center (WEC) provides strategic communications and campaign support to the reproductive health, rights, and justice field at all levels, complementing and strengthening the work of organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean via grants, integrated policy and communications campaigns, and rapid-response operations. WEC currently operates across 8 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Chile, and El Salvador, in addition to other regional work.

About The Position

The salary range for this position is from $150,000 to $173,954, based on years of experience and education.

The Women's Equality Center complements and strengthens the work of organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean to develop long-term and big-picture messaging frameworks around emerging issues and political opportunities linked to reproductive freedom and justice.

### What You'll Do The Director, Strategy & Communications will serve as one of two directors of WEC's communications and media operations across the Latin America and Caribbean region. Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and WEC's Communications, Policy, and Programs teams, the incoming Director will support WEC's on-the-ground partners as a critical adviser. You will design communications strategies, campaigns, and tactics that seek to capitalize on political opportunities in an effort to shift narratives, public perspectives, and ultimately influence positive policy changes in reproductive and abortion access across the region. This is an ideal opportunity for a bilingual communications strategist who values creative problem-solving and quick thinking, and is committed to providing critical support to organizations on the front lines of reproductive freedom work.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

Communications Strategy and Partnership Collaboration

  • Support WEC's ED, peer Director, and Policy Leads in refining WEC's communications strategy framework into one that leverages opportunities and mitigates for risks in a fast-changing political landscape while allowing us to set proactive and future thinking communications strategies
  • Design and execute compelling, locally relevant communications strategies (in English and Spanish), working closely with in-country partners and WEC's political and digital leads to amplify the impact of our campaigns
  • Identify areas in which WEC's collaboration with partners on policy and strategic communications campaigns could catalyze significant progress, or serve critical defensive roles
  • Monitor broader developments across the Latin America and Caribbean region for opportunities, challenges, and threats with regard to reproductive rights, health, and justice
  • Provide robust analyses of the media, political, public opinion, landscapes in target regions, countries, and localities
  • Set detailed proposals for tactics, timelines, and budgets, and report out progress of work to relevant and key stakeholders, including the ED, Advisory Committee, and funders

Team Leadership

  • Model WEC's values and serves as a culture carrier fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment for all who work in, with, and alongside WEC
  • Participate in driving broader organizational strategy and direction acting as a thought leader and leveraging your communications expertise to assist in formulating future initiatives and approaches
  • Serve as an organizational ambassador ensuring positive, effective, and collaborative working relationships across in-country organizations and teams
  • Support the hiring, management, and development of in-house staff and external consultants with a focus on ensuring each person is well-positioned to achieve their goals
  • Ensure the effective deployment of capital, people, and resources across communications projects

Who You'll Work With

  • You will report to the Executive Director
  • You will frequently collaborate with the peer Director of Strategic Communications and sit on the organization's leadership team, along with the other Directors
  • You will partner closely with other members of the communications team, including Directors, Managers, Associate Directors, and Coordinators
  • You will supervise project teams and in-country colleagues across specific communications work ### Employment Status Full-time (40 hours), Exempt

Flexible Work Environment

Women's Equality Center is a flexible/remote working environment, with team members working across the United States and Latin America. However, this is a U.S.-based position and U.S. work authorization is required.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $173,954. Where someone lands within this range will be dependent on years of experience and alignment to the necessary skills required for the role. Please note that WEC utilizes a points-based offer system to determine specific compensation – this philosophy was created to ensure equity in staff compensation and to eliminate bias. WEC will make their best offer upfront and as such will not negotiate on salary.

Travel

The Director will be expected to travel (including internationally), up to 50% of the time, some of which may occur over weekends or holidays.
