Description:

Working within The Candler Foundry at Candler School of Theology, the Assistant Director for Strategy and Operations will identify, analyze, and implement strategies that improve business operations, build capacity for growth and innovation, and enhance the effectiveness of the Foundry’s various programs.

 

The individual will have three primary areas of responsibility: (1) oversee daily operations related to finances, grants, customer engagement, events, and program management; (2) develop and implement strategies for sustaining, scaling, and enhancing existing Foundry programming; and (3) design and lead new strategic initiatives aimed at growing the Foundry’s networks and facilitating greater connection between the Foundry and Candler’s students, alumni, and various departments and initiatives (e.g., Admissions, Advancement and Alumni Engagement (AAE), Contextual Education (ConEd), Teaching Parish, La Mesa Academy, Course of Study, etc.).

 

The Assistant Director will report to the Executive Director of The Candler Foundry and will collaborate closely with the Foundry’s Scholar in Residence, Creative Producer, and Assistant Director of Community Learning and Partnerships.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in directing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of programs.
  • Represents the organization at meetings, conferences and other events.
  • May develop and present speeches or presentations to generate or enhance awareness of program(s).
  • Provides technical support by evaluating established processes, conducting training, attending operational meetings and networking with affiliated groups.
  • Monitors progress toward achieving established objectives and deadlines.
  • Participates in planning, administering and monitoring program related budgets.
  • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and collaborates with others to ensure program(s) remain viable.
  • May serve on, hold office in, or chair committees.
  • May write publishable articles and papers.
  • May supervise staff.
  • Oversees or assists in developing operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures required records and documentation are maintained.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program(s) and five years of program related experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s-level degree in theological studies (MDiv, MTS, etc.) and/or other advanced professional or academic degrees (PhD, JD, MBA, etc.).
  • Experience working in congregational ministry, theological education, community-based ministry, and or business.
  • A demonstrated capacity for organizational leadership and project management
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills
  • An ability to think creatively and strategically
  • Strong skills in the areas of problem-solving and theological reflection
  • A capacity for research, grant writing, and program evaluation
  • Advanced theological training (PhD, ThD, or DMin)

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
