Mutual of Enumclaw works exclusively with local independent agents to offer insurance products for individuals, families, farms, and businesses. We currently operate in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Montana and Wyoming.


 

The Sr. Systems Engineer reports to the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure and functions to design, install, secure, and optimize enterprise IT infrastructure systems and related components to achieve high performance, available, and competitive business services This role also has a focus on SaaS and cloud technologies and services.  System Engineers work closely with other teams specific to IT standards, controls, engineering and day to day operations.  Responsibilities include cloud technology operational support for enterprise systems and related implementations, troubleshooting and managing backup and recovery activity, storage, monitoring and alerting functions, performing capacity planning, and strategic input, designs and governance.  

 

Location: 

The successful candidate will work remotely and/or at our Home Office in Enumclaw, WA. If remote, the candidate must be able to work during our core Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours and must have high speed internet (internet speed test required).

 

Hiring Range: $131,000 - $145,000*

Salary Range: $131,000 - $160,000

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate as a technical leader in the design and review of new AWS and Azure solutions, systems, and applications to include the operational management of capacity planning where needed. 
  • Provide technical leadership and ownership on infrastructure projects or technologies across multiple disciplines and environments.  
  • Provides expert cloud and infrastructure evaluation, engineering/design, and implementation services for new products, technologies, and/or solutions to address corporate business requirements. 
  • Provides escalation support for Help Desk and other teams, SMEs, and stakeholders. 
  • Perform daily production and operations support activities for core competencies. 
  • Participate in team on-call rotations. 
  • Technical lead for projects associated with the enhancement, upgrade, or implementation of new or existing technology solutions and/or life-cycle needs with a cloud first approach. 
  • Conduct performance tuning, troubleshooting and cost management of cloud based systems. 
  • Drive and facilitate strategic activities (capacity planning, process improvement, maintenance, upgrade, end-of-life planning, and road-map development to include budget planning). 
  • Identify automation opportunities and implement scripted or like solutions. 
  • Research and recommend appropriate system administration best practices and tools. 

 


 

Qualifications:

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Strong working knowledge of cloud technologies, Microsoft Azure preferred followed by AWS. 
  • Able to recommend best practice architectures, implementations, documentation, and procedures for on-premises and cloud or SaaS based solutions. 
  • Ability to advise and manage cloud / SaaS toolsets specific to builds, standardization, deployments, security, capacity, application performance and operational support. 
  • Strong project management, leadership, strategic thinking, and teamwork skills. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience with security processes, procedures, and best practices 
  • Expert knowledge of windows server technologies, design, and operations. 
  • Strong knowledge of LAN / WAN and related network technologies, designs, and configurations. 
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills. 
  • Able to conduct independent research/analysis on server, application, and client solutions. 
  • Serve as a technical leader for resolving and/or escalating challenging system issues; provide timely response to business partners. 
  • Develop and manage systems capacity plans including virtual server resources, SAN IOPS, and network throughput to include restore and backup solutions. 
  • Able to plan and implement platform upgrades, life-cycle updates, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches. 
  • Able to participate in 24x7 on-call rotation. 
  • Demonstrates creativity and takes initiative in complex problem-solving. 

Identify technical innovation and process improvement opportunities. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • ASS or BS degree in the field of computer science, management information systems, or a related discipline of equivalent experience. 
  • Three to five years of hands-on experience with Azure related to projects, builds, tool-sets, management, and general technical efficiency within these platforms. 
  • Hands-on knowledge of key AWS and Azure services, such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, Azure VMs, Azure Storage, Virtual Networks, Azure AD, and Azure SQL Database. 
  • 7-10 years of equivalent work experience in a systems engineer/administrator position responsible for managing enterprise-class systems. 
  • Expert-level experience with IT infrastructure technology, such as core Microsoft server O/S products, VMware, SAN, NAS, security operations, firewall technology, and middleware. Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online are a plus. 
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell, jQuery, JSON, and others, i.e., Bash, Python a plus. 
  • Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, AWS SysOps Administrator Associate. 
  • Enterprise experience with DR solutions that include data replication and server recovery. 
  • Good understanding and support experience with Microsoft Active Directory Services. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with business stakeholders with high expectations are required. Self-starting, self-management, with a focus on customer service, is a must. 
  • Hands-on experience with network topologies, TCP/IP, related protocols, and route/switch with firewall experience preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Lifting of 10lbs.  
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer, including video conferencing.
