ORAU is seeking a Fully Remote, Senior Advisor, Payment, and Pricing to work with CMMI as an ORAU employee. The Senior Advisor will provide model payment methodology guidance and analytical direction related to the CMMI Specialty Integration strategy, including various new and existing models and initiatives. This exciting work will last one or more years, and the successful candidate will become a temporary employee of ORAU assigned to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Innovation (CMMI). This position is part-time at 20-30 hours per month.
CMMI was established by Congress in 2010 to identify ways to improve health-care quality and reduce costs in the Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance (CHIP) Program. Following this charge, CMMI, through its models, initiatives and Congressionally mandated demonstrations, has accelerated the shift from a health care system that pays for volume to one that pays for value. CMMI models are also researching and testing different approaches to innovative information technology systems which are essential to supporting this value transformation.
Responsibilities:
CMMI requires an experienced Senior Advisor and primary consultant on payment model pricing and performance data to inform critical model policies. Advises on model payment and pricing methodologies, including refinements to existing models, development of methodologies for new initiatives, and analysis of data and research to support exploration of new pricing methods for episode payment models.
- Provides technical consultation and leadership on complex health economic studies and consults with and collaborates with other researchers on aspects of study design, analysis, and interpretation related to CMMI’s Specialty Care Integration Strategy and its related models and initiatives.
- Designs, conducts, and performs data-based studies that address economic and pricing issues throughout model and initiative development, implementation, and evaluation, including proposed regulations or final regulations, if applicable.
- Supports new model and concept development, providing guidance and analytical direction on the use of complex econometrics and statistical techniques.
- Collaborates with other Innovation Center and CMS components to identify opportunities for alignment in payment and pricing methodologies.
Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in statistics, health economics, finance, or related field with 10+ years' experience in the healthcare field.
- Experience with Bundle Care Payment Models; research episode payment pricing or methodology is a plus.
- Experience working with senior leadership in an advisor or consultant capacity.
- Experience designing and/or analyzing Medicare or claims data, with preference for experience with episode-based payment models/methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of Medicare policy, claims data, value-based payment including pricing, payment, and performance measurement.
*The candidate’s starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate’s qualifications to determine salary.
