Job Summary:

The Senior Datacenter Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining Alogent's hosted environments. This position has responsibility for maintenance planning, service prioritization, managing day-to-day operations, and recommending/implementing changes according to industry standards, methodologies, and processes. This position is critical in driving datacenter operations in collaboration with Alogent’s system administrators, and application, development, and support teams.

Alogent’s datacenter presence includes on-prem VMWare instances, Azure Cloud and AWS instances.

 

The qualified candidate will have extensive Information Technology experience as well as great communication and project management skills. This position requires 8+ years minimum of hands-on technical experience in Systems design, implementation and networking and will report directly to the Director of Datacenter Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineer in a 24/7/365 enterprise level environment supporting many customers in the financial services sector
  • Manage datacenter operations ensuring maximum availability of all VMware infrastructure
  • Manage real time datacenter monitoring, dashboard reporting, vendor interface, and change control processes. Ensures completion of daily tasks and initiatives.
  • Proactively identifies issues, creates and escalates incidents, helps the team build KB articles, and actively participates in problem resolution
  • Manages/monitors/reports on capacity and operational performance for the datacenter environment per assigned metrics.
  • Ensures each operating environment is run in compliance with all relevant policies.
  • Coordinates and supports preventative maintenance activities, including backup monitoring, patch management, vulnerability scanning and remediation, and DR testing
  • Coordinates the configuration and maintenance of all environments with internal teams and external vendors. Works closely with customers and other systems professionals in order to identify and correct operational issues.
  • Creates and helps to maintain a disaster recovery plan for the datacenter operations team as well as helps maintain the main run book.
  • Develops and implements operations and escalations procedures.
  • Helps establish and maintain operational standards and processes; works with Alogent Security to implement auditing programs in support of corporate compliance certifications
  • Actively seeks new information about changing products, markets, procedures, techniques, industry trends, developments, and best practices.
  • Maintains a high level of urgency and customer focus
  • Support VMware vCloud Director and vSphere 7.x and higher
  • Help manage multiple IPSec VPN connections and firewall ACLs between multiple locations
  • Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. RBaC, network isolation, segmentation testing)
  • Work closely with the Director of Datacenter operations to create and implement processes and procedures.

 


Requirements:

  • 10+ years technical experience in a Datacenter, Systems Administration, or similar role
  • Four-year degree in Information Technology or other technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • Relevant certifications preferred (CCNA, CCNP, MCSA, MCSE, VCP).
  • 8+ years of experience in network design, planning, and implementing scalable, highly available, mission critical network infrastructure
  • 8+ years of experience in systems deployment and integration with various datacenter technologies
  • 4+ years supporting AWS and/or Azure environments
  • Advanced skillset in VMware vCloud Director and VMware vSphere 7.x and higher
  • Advanced technical knowledge on MS Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, MS-SQL 2016/2019
  • Networking skills including LAN/WAN/Router/Firewall/Load balancing/VPN experience
  • Advanced skillset in VMware vCloud Director and VMware vSphere 7.x and higher
  • Advanced skillset in Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DFS, ADFS
  • Demonstrated ability designing and implementing backup and recovery solutions
  • Experience with FortiNet, PaloAlto Firewalls, and Dell/Cisco switches
  • Experience with Linux systems administration
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solving complex technical problems and provide a detailed technical analysis

 

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires work after hours, weekends, and on-call rotation
  • Travel may be required in unusual situations
