Join AutoStore R&D, where we develop a wide range of products and solutions that automate warehouse cube storage for order-fulfilment. AutoStore is growing in size and within Mechanical Design we now look for a manager that can help the team and the persons in the team to grow further.

Role, responsibility, and reporting 

The R&D Manager Mechanics is responsible for the resource set-up, planning, and execution of their work towards new projects and existing products. The R&D Manager Mechanics will coach the team to work towards strategies and processes and will be a part of further development and implementation of these. The R&D Manager Mechanics reports to the Director of R&D Resources.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of processes for product development and production 

  • Attract, develop, and manage individuals on the team and actively share knowledge with team members

  • Own and improve development processes and best practices

  • Work with Project Managers, Product Owners, and Architects to understand plans and needs and be a part of the R&D Resources Management Group

  • Develop and manage a team or several smaller teams and foster a cross-disciplinary collaboration culture and to avoid silos

  • Be accountable for the quality and results delivered by the team and involve the team and delegate responsibility and ownership for tasks and decisions

  • Stay on top of AutoStore product portfolio, planned and ongoing activities and needs 

  • Plan and follow up on the team’s project & product commitments and periodically execution of resource planning and prioritization

  • Strategic & long-term planning and identify staffing gaps

  • Provide freedom and safety so that individuals and teams can innovate, experiment, and occasionally fail

  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety laws and regulations

  • Facilitate training for persons working with potential hazards and follow up on reported non-conformances

  • Understand organizational improvement areas and communicate suggestions for improvements

  • Ensure excellent communication from the management team and “product team” to own department and follow-up personal development and give frequent feedback

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • Proven track record of successfully managing and leading teams

  • Proficiency in Project Management and Agile methodologies

  • Strong motivational skills and ability to create a safe work environment

  • Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels

  • Strategic thinker with a holistic approach to planning

  • Awareness of market trends and directions

  • Strong business acumen​
