Overview

  • This is a Hybrid position (minimum 3 days in office/week) Candidates must reside in CA.**

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Training, Research & Community Engagement (TRC) Program is the research and capacity building assistance center housed in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine (DAYAM) at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. The main project this individual will be supporting is the Adolescent Health Innovation Hub. The Communications Specialist is responsible for implementing a national health communications and marketing strategy for a project related to innovation in adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Duties include developing and distributing promotional and educational materials, copywriting and editing content for varied sources, conducting outreach activities, supporting events and conferences, disseminating stories from the field, and recommending innovative communications tools and practices. This position will also be responsible for website maintenance and technical support for certain web-based platforms, including identifying issues and areas of opportunity to improve user experience and collaborating with various departments to implement changes. The Communications Specialist will partner with other team members on the development and provision of training, technical assistance, and evaluation activities related to health communications activities. They will also work collaboratively as part of the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine to implement communications that align with the department’s strategic initiatives and that reach our diverse network of professionals, communities, and young people.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 3-5 years of experience in writing and designing a wide range of health communications including materials for marketing (flyers, brochures, etc), recruitment, training (presentations), and other communications as needed for our external audience. Strong preference for those with adolescent and sexual and reproductive health expertise. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of effective health communications and marketing principles and standards through their previous experience and body of work. Will possess: exceptional writing and editing talent, including vocabulary, grammar, and AP style; a strong sense of design; the ability to organize complex information into cohesive communications; well-developed technical and project management skills; understanding audience segmentation and multimedia communications; analytical abilities that demonstrate identifying challenges and developing effective resolutions; a collaborative style; working within a fast-paced, strategic marketing organization. Strong people skills and can effectively adhere to timelines and changing priorities. Aligns with culture of Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine.

Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related field. Strong people and project management skills, the ability to define success criteria, identify project risks, opportunities and core stakeholders and effectively adhere to timelines and changing priorities.

Pay Scale Information

$61,360.00-$110,573.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
