Job description

The Sr. IP Network/Security Engineer is an individual contributor with an advanced background in IP Network Engineering and NGFW deployment, configuration and administration.

The primary objective of this role is to collaboratively extrapolate customer requirement as it primarily relates to the network security requirement and eloquently pair them with advanced capabilities of the technology to establish a baseline design which meets the customers’ needs and exceeds their expectations.

This will require disciplined compliance with change management best practices while working both independently and with cross-functional teams; this role will have opportunities to coach team members on complex network security issues, interface with other engineering and support groups internally, and engage with customer IT personnel on complex network/system performance and troubleshooting efforts.

This senior engineer position provides customer facing global IP network, security design and implementation, hardware selection and configuration standardization as it relates to network routing protocol, switching and security methodology. As part of the Engineering Operations team, the role also includes supporting escalations from the global support organization as well as providing pre-sales technical consultation alongside Sales and Solutions Engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in administration and management of company-wide multi-vendor NGFWs
  • Develop, enhance and enforce the Security policies and hardening of managed network devices
  • Contributes to the development, deployment and operation of customer facing solutions primarily in area of network security in coordination with Sales/Sales Engineering, Product and other Engineering Operations teams to ensure optimal solution and supportability
  • Performs threat and vulnerability assessments and provides subject matter expertise on appropriate threat mitigation approaches
  • Performs URL, web-content and application whitelisting/filtering
  • Provide 3rd/4th level technical escalation support by providing network security subject matter expertise
  • Supports cyber security initiatives through both predictive and reactive analysis
  • Collaborate with other IP Network Engineers and Customer Engineers around the globe in the design and deployment of new services and/or enhancements to existing network services
  • Coach team members on complex network security issues to deliver the highest level of service to our customers
  • Ensures that appropriate action is taken to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems in systems and services. Coordinates the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures. Analyses patterns and trends
  • Controls, updates and distributes new and revised quality, configuration and services standards, including technical changes, and maintains documentation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science but will consider candidates with the right combination of relevant work experience or degrees in related fields
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
  • Palo Alto’s PCNSE or Cisco’s CCNP Security certification preferred but may be substituted with equivalent experience and knowledge of Security, Routing and Switching
  • Must have at least 7 years of network/security engineering design and operation experience utilizing various products from vendors such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Juniper and Versa Networks
  • Extensive experience with Network Security and VPN design and implementation utilizing Palo Alto, Cisco and Fortinet
  • Must have proven experience in the application of network design, development and implementation techniques in communications systems that involve a variety of hardware and software suites
  • Advanced level knowledge and hands on working experience of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIPv2), MPLS and SD-WAN
  • Experience with various NMS and ITSM such as Solarwinds, DataMiner and ServiceNow
  • Experience with network packet analyzer tools such as Wireshark, NetFlow or equivalent and bandwidth measurement tool such iPerf or equivalent tool
  • Able to communicate effectively via written and verbally
  • Excellent problem solver, flexible and able to accommodate changing priorities and directions
  • Must be able to interact effectively within all levels of the company
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and function with minimal supervision
  • Research and analytical skills with the ability to collect access and report factual data and present logical conclusions
