Your missions

Join our highly experienced team of veterinarians, scientists, statisticians, analysts, data engineers, managers, and technicians in advancing veterinary medicine.

As a Senior Biostatistician with the IDEXX Global Medical Organization, you will be contributing to sound experimental design and statistical analyses for prospective, retrospective, and observational studies for clinical trials and studies utilizing our patient health data.  We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated biostatistician to provide essential support for multiple initiatives, projects, and programs across our organization.

What you can expect in this role:

  • You will apply rigorous statistical methods to answer a wide variety of questions.

  • You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across fields with varying levels of technical experience to distill their needs into practicable analysis plans.

  • You will design and document prospective, retrospective, and observational studies to meet objectives.

  • You will summarize and present information with appropriate complexity for use across departments and organizational structures.

  • You will shape project paths by exerting influence without formal authority.

  • You will provide expert consultation to review boards, core teams, and steering committees.

  • You will communicate and work with teams to publish peer review publications, commercial materials, and other scientific updates through various technological and interpersonal media.

  • You will produce compelling data visualizations which adhere to graphical display standards and clearly present analytical findings.

  • You will access and retrieve data from internal databases.

  • You will create clear, concise, and reproducible reports.

  • You will prioritizing your own workload and manage competing timelines across multiple parallel projects with minimal oversight.

  • You will provide insightful recommendations for workflow improvement, backed by comprehensive written documentation related to data analysis.

  • Expect to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Salary and grade level will be commensurate with experience.

What you need to succeed:

Preferred experience:

  • Master’s degree in biostatistics, applied statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, or similar program with experience in applying statistical principles in a biological (immunoassay or instrumentation) environment preferred

  • Candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Data visualization experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with machine learning/artificial intelligence a plus.

Required experience:

  • Experience with the statistical programming language R.

  • Excellent communication and teaching ability; can communicate complex statistical concepts in a manner that is understandable to a non-statistical audience.

  • Knowledge of standard measurement systems statistical methods such as, generalized linear models, mixed effects models, categorical data analysis, survival analysis, repeated measures, sample size determination, and experimental design including response surface, mixture designs, fractional factorial screening designs, split plots, and full factorials.  

  • Knowledge of measurements of accuracy and agreement such as sensitivity, specificity, predictive value, Cohen’s Kappa, method comparison, and test validation.

  • Ability to research and learn new analytical methods and skills independently.

  • Results oriented, self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with research and engineering teams; external collaborations (key opinion leaders, contractors, vendors, etc.).

  • Ability to frame a complex diagnostic question appropriately, develop an analytical strategy, assemble the relevant data and results to clearly communicate a coherent set of conclusions.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce written reports that succinctly describe the study purpose, experimental structure, statistical analysis, and conclusions & recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand unique situations and adjust experimental structure and statistical analyses as appropriate.

  • Investigative mindset; able to probe into new areas and surface new learning.

  • Ability to plan and manage projects and demonstrated ability to influence without authority.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Physical demands:

  • Extensive sitting and computer use.

  • Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Hearing acuity sufficient to effectively communicate via telephone and in person.

  • Ability to communicate verbally on phone and in person.

  • Fluency in the English language.

  • Weekend hours and weekday overtime may be required.

  • Some travel may be required.

Work environment:

  • General office environment.

  • Flexibility to work from home up to 5 days a week.

  • May occasionally visit university and laboratory environments or trade conferences.

  • Occasional travel or on-site work (IDEXX Headquarters, Westbrook, ME) as needed.
