Who You Are

CIEE utilizes a self-funded captive insurance company that underwrites policies and risk management for the CIEE insurance program. Participant benefits for the travel insurance program are directly administered by Aetna as the TPA. CIEE also acts as the emergency assistance provider for the insurance company in escalated incidents. This role works closely with other departments to ensure the smooth operational process for all insurance-related matters including participant eligibility reports, monthly premium invoicing, and managing the coordination of insurance products for each program.

The Manager of Insurance will be responsible for managing CIEE's captive insurance program, which provides insurance coverage and support for CIEE's participants in our J-1 exchange programs. You will be responsible for working with the Vice President concerning all captive insurance matters. This will include managing relationships with the captive management company, auditors, actuary, and the Third-Party Administrator (TPA). You will also be responsible for managing and analyzing claims data that is provided by the TPA to report on trends or recommend pricing strategies for their insurance program.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage relationships with the captive management company, actuary, auditors, and TPA on all captive insurance-related matters.
  • Assist the Vice President of Participant Services with data analysis on claims and benefit trends in conjunction with TPA.
  • Responsible for maintaining and coordinating all insurance-related materials for the captive program including reports for auditors and board meetings.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with other CIEE departments that utilize the CIEE insurance program.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in the US and internationally.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Monitor any escalated related calls or incidents on the 24-hour Emergency Cell Phone on a rotating basis.
  • Develop an expertise of the CIEE Captive Insurance Plan.
  • Research and develop opportunities for expanding the captive insurance program with other Sponsors.
  • Assist Vice President of Participant Services in working on escalated support cases in the office and occasionally in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent).
  • 1-3 years experience in the insurance field, preferably health/travel-related.
  • Any related insurance certifications or licenses are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Captive Insurance is a plus.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle a variety of issues required
  • Knowledge of Excel and reporting capabilities
  • Ability to thrive as a team player and self-starter required
  • Experience in a global and fast-paced work environment and across program
  • Excellent organization, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Travel or experience in an International Setting or living abroad experience preferred.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be flexible, possess a positive attitude, and be able to work independently and take initiative
