Sustainability has long been at the heart of the way Sucafina does business, which is underscored by our purpose: to create opportunities to improve lives. From climate change and deforestation to human rights, poverty, and unsustainable farm practices, the coffee supply chain faces major challenges. And with the growing demand for responsibly sourced coffee across the industry, we as Sucafina’s Global Sustainability Team want to help roasters of all sizes achieve their sustainability goals. This role will be within the Sustainability department, covering multiple origins around the globe.

Role Definition
In order to meet our commitment to human rights across our entire supply chains and support brand partners to comply with stringent regulations on due diligence, we are seeking a Human Rights Specialist with expertise in the agriculture commodity sector to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of deploying pragmatic solutions to address issues such as child labor, workers' rights, and gender equality in complex agri-supply chains. The Human Rights Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that our operations are conducted in a socially responsible and sustainable manner and that we support our clients to meet their goals. Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the Human Rights pillar of IMPACT, Sucafina’s sustainability sourcing program, with a particular focus on child protection, workers rights and gender equality.

  • Based on internal standards and relevant regulations ensure incorporation of relevant human rights requirements in IMPACT.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to country project teams on conceptualization, design, and implementation of programs around key human rights issues projects around gender equality, child labor and workers rights, ensuring adherence to best practices in human rights programming.
  • Develop and deploy relevant toolkits, such as risk assessments, gender analysis, country guidance, template policies, impact measurement surveys.
  • Develop and deliver global training materials on human rights issues and requirements.
  • Provide technical input to the development of Sucafina’s policies, tools and due diligence processes around human rights.
  • Develop and implement robust monitoring & reporting frameworks to track the impact and effectiveness of human rights interventions in IMPACT supply chains.
  • Utilize monitoring data to inform programmatic adjustments and learning agendas, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Capacity building of country sustainability teams on human rights/social principles, methodologies, and frameworks.
  • Stay abreast of developments in relevant laws, regulations and best practices, and integrate new knowledge into policy, program design and implementation.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in social science, agriculture; international development or another advanced subject.


Experience

  • Proven experience in working on human rights issues in large private or public agricultural or rural development projects.

Technical skills

  • Proficiency in developing and implementing human rights strategies such as child labor monitoring and remediation systems, conducting risk assessments/gender analysis, and integrating gender, child protection and inclusion considerations into programming.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively about complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in deploying pragmatic solutions to address human rights issues, such as child protection, workers' rights, and gender equality. Proven experience in program design, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Ability to provide strategic direction, prioritize tasks, and allocate resources effectively to achieve programmatic goals.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to field locations to oversee program implementation, provide technical support, and engage with stakeholders

  • Demonstrates understanding of diverse cultural practices, norms, and perspectives. Able to navigate cross-cultural interactions with humility and openness, fostering positive relationships with stakeholders from various backgrounds.
