100% Remote within California, Must reside in California
This is a part-time position with a range of 10-15 hours per week with an end date of 12/31/2024.

We are seeking a Platform Technical Writer to join the Foundation in its mission of benefiting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation. The Foundation for California Community Colleges is on a mission to double its impact in the next 10 years. What You’ll Do

The Platform Technical Writer, Technology Solutions will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical documentation that is primarily focused on the software cloud infrastructure and back-end services of the software products managed by the Technology Solutions department. The ideal candidate is familiar with secure software development practices and GRC frameworks.

The Platform Technical Writer, Technology Solutions will work closely with the Platform Leads and several cross-functional partners, including Product, Infrastructure and Development teams, to gather information, ensure accuracy, and maintain comprehensive guides.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product owners, QA engineers, developers, designers) to gather information and ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain version control for documentation to track changes and updates.
  • Review and edit content for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Simplify complex technical concepts and tailor content to the needs of different personas (developers, product owners, operations specialists)
  • Develop comprehensive documentation artifacts, including:
    • System architecture diagrams (preferably using C4 model)
    • API documentation, including endpoints, authentication, parameters, request/response formats and examples.
    • Data dictionaries, describing the tables, fields, indexes, relationships, constraints, and business rules.
    • Database catalogs (where applicable), schemas and components.
  • Collaborate with GRC partners to ensure the resilience plans, including the Incident Response Plan (IRP), Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP), and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) are up-to-date and reflected in our internal SOPs and process guides.

Attributes for Success

  • Knowledge of Agile project management methodologies and techniques (Scrum, Kanban, etc.), as well as other disciplines of project management
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, including Azure and AWS
  • Experience with cybersecurity compliance frameworks; NIST SP 800-53
  • Familiarity of CAL-SECURE Strategic Plan is a plus
  • Familiarity with HECVAT, State-RAMPs and the Fed-RAMP
  • Strong attention to detail with a high-level of accuracy; ensures that all communications, deliverables, and work products are accurate, professional, and audience appropriate while adhering to the organization’s brand and style guides
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and effectiveness in working with a high-performing team
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to think strategically to achieve department, organization and performance goals
  • Tolerant and welcoming of ambiguity and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities while working effectively when parameters are not well defined; able to make midcourse adjustments, as required, in a flexible manner
  • Ability to work remotely and navigate various technology platforms (Zoom, MS Office Suite, Teams, Outlook, Salesforce Lightning and other database programs, Google Suite, etc.)

Budgeted Hourly Pay Range:

$35.00 - $55.00

Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
