Information Technology Services is responsible for AARP enterprise-wide technology and information security functions. Services range from infrastructure design and operations, system and software lifecycle implementations, enabling the mobile workforce and protecting AARP network, systems and data. A variety of technologies and practices are used including cloud computing, automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning within highly collaborative Agile teams.

The Engineer II, Monitoring & Response works with cross-functional teams and customers to understand business requirements and translates into technical specifications. Discovers the true requirements underlying feature requests and recommends alternative technical approaches. Partners with cross-functional technical teams to launch projects and provide ongoing technical support. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to streamline technology processes and develop new procedures that support the business unit/department.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes a technical roadmap for the platform and/or capability strategy and lifecycle that considers value-based outcomes, costs to maintain, supportability, and performance.
  • Ensures sound integration, data, security, and business architecture design throughout all stages within the platform and/or capability lifecycle.
  • Provides rapid delivery and development of technical solutions that align with business and/or platform desired outcomes.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues related to platform or capability systems, solutions, and services.
  • Innovates and drives continuous improvements of implementation methodology and technical service offerings based on customer/employee experiences or other enterprise objectives/outcomes.
  • Participates in a Community of Interest for engineers across all capability and platform teams to share information and strengthen understanding of business needs and technology-based business solutions.
  • Develops and maintains deep technical knowledge and expertise related to domain area systems, solutions, services, and applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of IT experience with applied knowledge of technical operations, including networking, in physical and cloud environments.
  • Experience in enterprise practices and standards, cloud technologies, and platform integration.
  • Technical or solution architecture experience with projects using Agile and other iterative approaches.
  • Ability to code within the SolarWinds environment on Linux systems using 1) Windows Powershell in SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor application templates for custom monitoring logic and statistics where needed, 2) Bourne Shell for the installation of SolarWinds agents and in custom monitoring logic and statistics, 3) SQL for direct database queries and for geolocation group hierarchy and map point automation, and 4) JSON and REST to work with API calls to the SolarWinds Information Service (SWIS) as well as API endpoints used for API-based monitoring like Meraki cloud, Microsoft 365.
  • Proficiency in the PagerDuty application fundamentals.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation And Benefits

AARP offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including a 401(k); 100% company-funded pension plan; health, dental, and vision plans; life insurance; paid time off to include company and individual holidays, vacation, sick, caregiving, and parental leave; performance-based and peer-based recognition and tuition reimbursement. For this position, we anticipate offering a salary between $135,000 to $157,500 per year. This role is also eligible to participate in an annual incentive plan with a percentage up to 12%. Bonus eligibility is dependent upon organizational and individual performance.
