The Opportunity…

The Director of Contractor Services reports to the Vice President of Workforce Development and will help lead GRID Alternatives’ new and exciting work launching our Mission Aligned Contractor Network, and overall contractor management across the organization. This individual is responsible for working with senior leaders across business divisions to design and implement an internal strategy focused on standardized and efficient subcontractor management, and an external strategy focused on value-added subcontractor development services.

  • Refine and implement plan for launching GRID’s Mission Aligned Contractor Network, with an initial focus on national implementation of solar and related clean energy projects under the EPA Solar for All Program
  • Works with leadership teams across GRID Alternatives to ensure buy in and alignment on subcontractor services strategy and implementation
  • Develops recruitment strategy in alignment with programs and regions to ensure a sufficient supply of qualified subcontractors; oversees outreach coordinators responsible for identifying and qualifying subcontractors
  • In collaboration with various internal stakeholders, designs and deploys standard operating procedures and documents for all subcontractor relationships including application, vetting criteria, master service agreement, project management platform, training, and other subcontractor required processes
  • Oversee subcontractor managers responsible for the implementation of standard operating procedures including vetting, onboarding, training, and internal data management systems
  • In collaboration with workforce development and the subcontractor trainer, designs and deploys trainings on both clean energy technologies and on GRID’s quality, safety, and cultural standards; ensures all subcontractors comply with annual training requirements
  • Works with the operations team, outreach coordinator, and subcontractor manager to maintain an internal database of subcontractors
  • Works with key colleagues and departments to ensure that relevant staff across the organization are trained on subcontractor standard operating procedures and documents
  • Conducts annual subcontractor engagement survey to ensure GRID is delivering value added services to subcontractors
  • Maintains relationships with outside organizations providing technical assistance that GRID cannot do in-house
  • Hosts monthly roundtable of GRID leaders and key subcontractor stakeholders to quality assure subcontractor services and ensure continuous improvement


What You Need To Bring...

  • Extensive experience in solar, electrical, EVSE and/or construction industries; with a preference for residential and commercial operations
  • Experience leading subcontractor, partner, procurement, or dealer management; including recruitment and retention strategies; creation and oversight of quality and safety standards
  • Experience leading cross-departmental projects and implementing change management across a geographically dispersed organization
  • Experience directly managing a team
  • Knowledge of electrical and construction codes; OSHA and industry safety best-practices
  • Strong familiarity with Salesforce, or a similar CRM
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • Strong project management skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, GSuite, and other office productivity applications
  • Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity; passion for GRID’s mission


It would be great if you also had...

  • 8 - 10 years of solar, construction, and/or electrical industry experience; with 2 of those years being in subcontractor, partner, procurement, or dealer management
  • 3-5 years of construction related project management experience
  • Certificate, Associates, or Bachelors in Construction or Project Management, Supply Chain, or similar field
  • OSHA 10 or 30
  • Previous experience building subcontractor management programs from the ground up


Where you will sit and the places you may go…

This position requires up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($100k-$120k annually), plus the benefits below.
