A bit about the role…


This senior role within the Global Sustainability team focuses on leading sustainable supply chain strategies. If you are an expert in embedding policies, enhancing monitoring systems, managing due diligence, and mitigating risks in supply chains to reduce environmental and human rights impacts, then this opportunity may align well with your skill set.

Your key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):


  • Develop and lead sustainable sourcing policies and initiatives for key product and ingredients, primarily focused on commodity (coffee, palm, cocoa) and agriculture (milk, eggs & animal proteins) supply chains, working with Procurement, internal and TCCC teams to ensure commercial impact and regulatory aspects are understood and approved, and clearly communicated.
  • Lead all aspects of regulatory compliance related to sustainable supply chain legislation.
  • Lead strategic relationship with Costa’s 3rd party certification partners to drive opportunities for improved business practices and brand engagement (eg. Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, RSPO). Manage certification aspects of the relationship including related audits and assessments and utilising cross functional skills to assure compliance.
  • Deliver Costa’s Supplier Guiding Principles workplace ethics programme, meeting annual targets and setting strategies for long term improvement pathways. Manage and assure audit programme with 3rd party and in line with TCCC Human Rights policies and requirements.
  • Lead traceability and supply chain mapping initiatives for Costa’s priority/high risk products and ingredients, codifying data and risk assessment sources and providing management reporting/KPI’s to supply chain and technical teams.
  • Set up governance and routines to support sustainable supply chain progress reporting processes, including leading Costa’s supplier engagement/surveys and work with internal partners on sustainable sourcing and human rights communications and disclosures (internal/external).
  • Build effective network through relationship building, identifying opportunities to drive brand trust and build reputation through sustainable supply chain activities. Engage with Costa’s Executive, Networked Leadership Team (NLT) and functional partners, to drive team engagement and improved understanding of Costa’s sustainability plan.
  • Manage all related budgetary responsibilities to deliver objectives and progress, including long range planning and annual in year budget management, and cost effective use of advisory services from 3rd parties.

  • Full understanding of sustainable sourcing, human rights and ESG issues and systemic drivers
  • Practical application of strategies and actions necessary to provide assurance and compliance in high risk commodities/supply chains.
  • Practical experience achieving 3rd party certification compliance and managing audits (eg. Rainforest Alliance, RSPO), and an understanding of social and environmental systems, principles and practices (ie. SEDEX, Eti, UNGP’s)
  • Strong working knowledge of non financial reporting and ESG regulations – including EUDR, CSRD, CSDDD
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams and external consultants/specialists Working experience of defining and implementing sustainability strategies within supply chains and wider supplier ecosystems
  • Experience of navigating matrix organisations – working centrally and across business units.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects to time and budget.
  • Adept at presenting opportunities into a language the business can understand – specifically commercial and practical bias.
