Senior Business Development Manager

Location: UK Remote – 25% travel will be required

Role Purpose:

This position represents the highest-level individual contributor role and is responsible for increasing sales by actively selling solutions to assigned existing biopharmaceutical customers while prospecting and cultivating new business within assigned geography. Owns the full sales cycle with their accounts using supporting functions as needed (PSS, SST, SMEs, Product Managers, Program Managers, etc.). Works in close conjunction with other Lonza Business Units, as needed.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accurately forecasts and delivers on quarterly and annual sales targets
  • Builds and manages the sales funnel from new opportunity generation through close of business
  • Demonstrates superior understanding and appropriately communicates the Bioscience portfolio and Lonza’s value proposition to customers
  • Superior understanding of assigned accounts, pipeline, and partnerships. Acts as a liaison between account sites, departments, and key decision makers, is capable of leveraging relationships to create long-term and sustainable business. 
  • Prospects and develops leads for new customers and accounts within their assigned territory.  Utilizes cold calling, networking, social media, and events to cultivate new business.  Demonstrates command of broad skill sets required to build pipeline utilizing multi-channel prospecting (phone, digital platforms and in-person meetings.)
  • Gathers and communicates information on market trends and applications as well as on competitive activities to Senior Management, Product Management, and R&D
  • Organizes, plans, and schedules time to provide optimum and effective account and territory coverage. 

Key requirements:

  • Degree - in life sciences, biotechnology or similar related fields (B.S or B.A.)
  • Knowledge of the biopharmaceutical process, from discovery to commercialization.
  • Proven track record in sales, particularly within the biopharmaceutical industry (e.g. protein, mAb, biosimilar production)
  • Experience in business development, client relationship management, and strategic partnerships.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates comfort with public speaking in front variable audiences, including C-Suite executives.
  • Strong networking skills to establish and maintain relationships with key industry players, clients, and partners.
  • Commitment to understanding customer needs and delivering solutions that meet or exceed their expectations.
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written
  • Computer Skills (e.g  Microsoft office suite, CRM, Data analysis, Power Point)
