The psychiatrist will provide general inpatient psychiatric care to male and female adult patients (Over the age of 18). The spectrum of clinical duties includes, but is not limited to, providing acute inpatient psychiatric treatment to an adult psychiatric population with diverse diagnoses including major affective disorders, psychotic disorders, PTSD, personality disorders and substance use disorders. Candidates must be highly motivated, flexible and able to work as part of an integrated team who will provide sound diagnostic and therapeutic care to Harrington Hospital patients. The psychiatrist will be expected to participate in the Psychiatry on-call schedule and work as a part of a collaborative team to ensure the patients complete continuum of care.

Work Schedule: Per Diem Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine
  • Must have valid DEA
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in Massachusetts
  • Board eligible/ Board certification in Psychiatry
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Physical requirements outlined below.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in an inpatient setting.

Job performance:

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations, prescribes psychotropic medications, documents, and follows patients throughout their course of treatment while on the inpatient unit
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to work
  • Directs and coordinates medical activities related to patient care
  • Works with outpatient mental health providers, substance abuse directors, the outpatient and Inpatient Medical Director the hospital medical staff and nursing administration
  • Adheres to the best psychiatric and clinical practices as learned in self-directed continuing education materials
  • Works cooperatively with the Chief of Psychiatry and Senior Leadership to ensure compliance with all state regulatory and statuary requirements stipulated by the Department of Mental Health, Joint Commission, the Department of Public Health, BSAS and CMS
  • Participates in the medical staff continuing medical education program
  • Supervises Advanced Practice Clinicians as assigned by the Medical Director of Inpatient Services
