Statistician

Primary purpose: Supports government projects by applying mathematical and statistical theory and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize data to support client needs. Supports analytics and contributes to proposals as they relate to quantitative analyses. Though project assignments can change, this position supports multiple Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) projects.

A successful candidate will:

• Consult with clients to understand problems and refine science questions.
• Formulate analytic approaches to address science questions. This includes designing study plans, determining data-capture and statistical-analysis plans, and contributing to the creation of reporting plans.
• Use statistical scripting and programming languages to extract, clean, process, and analyze data from various sources, including protected health information (such as claims and electronic health record data).
• Conduct independent analysis using standard statistical techniques such as linear regression, generalized linear modeling, mixed modeling, and other inference methodologies.
• Conduct validity and reliability testing.
• Design and implement survey sampling and weighting methods.
• Consult on the development and implementation of measures, including calculation of confidence intervals.
• Interpret, summarize, and present findings clearly and concisely to audiences of varying technical-knowledge levels.
• Write and review reports and journal articles, including reviewing for clearance.
• Communicate effectively within a project team and with external resources to complete assigned tasks on time and within budget.
• Prioritize workload across multiple tasks with limited supervision.

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field  
• A minimum of ten (10) years of applied experience
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in health or a similar field
• Experience using SAS and R
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with government contracting, especially with CMS
• Experience using Python
• History of working on remote, distributed teams
