Title: Remote Infrastructure Consultant

Location: St Paul, MN - 100% Remote

Position Notes:

These individuals will be working on the mirgration to cloud initiative and will be backfilling some of the support/maintenance of project work so the team can focus on other initiatives. The resources also may work on other forward-facing projects as well.
The hiring manager prefers local candidates as the team is hybrid. The team is currently working onsite 1-2 days per week. Manager is also open to a national search. Any candidates that would be considered for conversion need to meet location requirements.

Candidates must have an IT infrastructure background. It is beneficial to have cloud experience; working with AWS, Azure, or some of the other cloud platforms.


Position Summary:

The Server and Storage Infrastructure team is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining compute, storage, backup, and additional shared infrastructure technologies to support Client’s business applications and processes. Team efforts are predominantly cloud focused as we are actively migrating our data center infrastructure to cloud platforms and hosted services. Specific technologies supported by the team include enterprise file services, backup, workload automation (batch scheduler), Managed File Transfer, Active Directory, and engineering of Linux and Windows server operating system images. Team responsibilities also include partnering with managed services in supporting hosted Mainframe, iSeries, and private cloud platforms as well as support for several technologies that will be retired as we complete our migration such as virtual server infrastructure and Storage Area Network.

Team responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Engineer Infrastructure technology
    • Design, create, and deploy solutions for Client’s applications running on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) using industry best practices
    • Implement and manage server and infrastructure applications through the use of IaC.
    • Lead or execute the engineering and implementation of upgrades, patches or enhancements.
    • Lead or perform technical proofs-of-concept, pilots and validations.
    • Ensure security, compliance, governance, and audit requirements and best practices are met
    • Perform research and plan future state for new or enhanced solutions.
  • Support Infrastructure technology
    • Respond to and resolve escalated incidents and problems.
    • Ensure availability, capacity, performance, and resiliency meet service level objectives.
    • On a rotational basis, provide off-hour support for critical issues.
    • Develop, automate, execute and continually improve processes to support the use of IT solutions.

What we’d expect from you:

  • Knowledge of IT technologies, networking, security, infrastructure automation and scripting
  • 1-2 years of experience with AWS and/or Azure, and related cloud technologies
  • Experience with the deployment and support of AWS technologies such as EC2, EFS, FSx, etc., leveraging Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform).
  • Software engineering/coding experience in one or more languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Powershell
  • CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub, GitHub Actions) for the management and deployment of code
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or similar experience
  • Solid analytical skills, creative problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to clearly convey complex technical messages
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, continual learner, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a project team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the flexibility to adapt to changing project priorities and deadlines.

The focus of these positions will be on the support of traditional infrastructure and cloud technologies the team is responsible for.
