Natcast (short for The National Center for the Advancement of Semiconductor Technology) is a new, purpose-built, non-profit entity created to operate the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC) consortium, established by the CHIPS Act of the U.S. government.

Role: Senior Vice President, Research 

Location: Remote to start, with the potential for headquarters and satellite offices in the future. 

About the Job 

As Natcast’s Senior Vice President, Research, you have broad and deep experience in the semiconductor industry, both personally and as a leader/ manager of a diverse technical workforce. You can quickly build an organization against specific goals. You are collaborative across industry and academia, and inside and outside the company. You are a strategic thinker but can turn to implementation quickly. Working at Natcast, you will have an opportunity to help extend America’s global leadership in semiconductor technology. 

Job responsibilities will include: 

  • In collaboration with NSTC members and government partners, develop and implement Natcast’s technology strategy. 

  • Articulate and drive a research agenda that is relevant to the needs of the US semiconductor industry. 

  • Oversee and manage Natcast’s research and development portfolio, including both inside and outside projects. 

  • Build and lead a high-performing technology team; mentor and develop these team members to achieve their full potential. 

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with government entities, businesses, and academic/research institutions.  

  • Create and manage one or more technical advisory boards to ensure that the broader semiconductor community provides input and advice on technology priorities. 

  • Be a visible and influential leader in the semiconductor industry, participating in industry conferences and standard-setting bodies. 

  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, both inside and outside of the company. 

 

During the first 6 months on the job, you will: 

  • Build Natcast’s strategic research plan. 

  • Establish a grantmaking program office. 

  • Recruit a Technical Advisory Board for Natcast. 

  • Start hiring a research staff through direct hiring and academic/ industry assignees. 

  

Required Qualifications 

  • MS degree in electrical engineering, physics/ material science or related field. 

  • 8+ years individual semiconductor research experience in academia and/ or industry. 

  • 10+ years experience managing technical organizations in the semiconductor industry. 

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in the semiconductor industry. 

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability / willingness to travel domestically on a regular basis as needed  

  

Highly Desired Qualifications 

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics/ material science or related field. 

  • Familiarity with government operations, contracts, regulations, and compliance requirements.
