Position Summary
Supports School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS) faculty, staff, and students in teaching and learning activities including providing faculty training and support in both evidence-based pedagogies and technology that enhance course delivery and assessment practices. Facilitates student-centered education development opportunities for faculty teaching in face-to-face, online/hybrid, and fully online courses. Serves as liaison between faculty, staff, university, and industry partners to improve student learning outcomes.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Assists with design and development of face-to-face, online, and online/hybrid courses.

  • Collaborates with instructors to develop high-quality learning experiences across a variety of formats that reflect CAPS values.
  • Ensures course design and course materials meet accessibility standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in inclusive education; provides training and assistance for instructors.
  • Provides instructor training in evidence-based teaching pedagogies, best practices in learner-centered teaching, learner-centered course design and online/hybrid pedagogy.
  • Performs assessments on course/instructors to ensure quality guidelines and desired learning outcomes are being met; makes recommendations to develop a wide variety of learning assessment instruments.
  • Consults with instructors to help them address a range of challenges, including design and delivery of course content, assessments, and learning activities.
  • Collaborates with the instructional design team to create, maintain, and distribute faculty resources on instructional design, evidence-based pedagogies, and educational technology.
  • Develops and maintains training materials and documentation on best practices in learning-centered teaching in a variety of course delivery formats, including online asynchronous, online with synchronous meetings, hybrid (with in-person meetings), and on-campus courses. 

Assists/Supports teaching and learning strategy development.

  • Researches and recommends new and emerging technologies, instructional design theories and models and their potential application to instructional opportunities; designs and produce learning materials regarding trends, to support teaching, learning and CAPS needs.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers workshops and training to inform faculty and staff on pedagogical applications and effective use and integration of technology tools for online and blended delivery.
  • Participates in accreditation activities related to online programs.
  • In collaboration with data specialist and the rest of the instructional design team designs, develops, administers, and analyzes faculty and student surveys to obtain feedback on teaching and learning practices.
  • Advocates for and communicate educational development activities for CAPS faculty. 

Administers and supports educational technology.

  • Serves as a CAPS subaccount Canvas administrator and support faculty, staff, and students in their use of Canvas LMS (MyCanvas and WU Extended Learning). Attends regular meetings and stay current on vendor changes and updates.
  • Supports CAPS faculty, staff, and student in their use of educational technology, including Canvas, Kaltura, Annoto, Poll Everywhere, Hypothesis, Zoom, and other tools used in teaching and learning.
  • Represents CAPS interests in researching, piloting, and implementing new educational technology, frequently in collaboration with other University schools.
  • Collaborates with institutional partners including WU IT to ensure that educational technology tools remain operational and available to faculty.
  • Collaborates with SME’s and information technology staff to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching, including application assessment, pedagogy, deployment methodologies, and integration strategies.
  • Creates, maintains, and distributes training materials for faculty and students on use of supported educational technology tools.
  • Evaluates, researches and guides new ed tech tools through the WU IT external review process and assist faculty with ed tech tool-Canvas integrations.

Promotes online learning and facilitate online course delivery.

  •  Supports and develops CAPS online learning resources for students and faculty.
  • Represents CAPS in campus wide and state and national discussions and initiatives focused on online learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Remote with the ability to move on and off-campus locations as needed.
  • Work schedule to be determined with direct supervisor during first week.
  • Standard working hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in related discipline.
  • Previous experience designing, developing, and managing online, blended, and/or other technology-mediated instruction.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, or program/course assessment evaluation. 
  • Experience in project management.
  • Familiarity with video and digital production. 
  • Experience with Canvas LMS.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of functional area and instructional design principles and learning strategies, and knowledge of information technology; possess strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
  • Highly collaborative with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Exceptional project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines with varying degrees of pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work independently and collaboratively, and make decisions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, instructional technology, curriculum design, or other related discipline and one year of related experience.

Salary Range
$48,700.00 - $80,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
