POSITION SUMMARY: This position will focus on data gathering, analysis, application configuration, with heavy emphasis on planning, testing, training, knowledge transfer, and system implementation support, both internally and with the customer. This position will work in both a remote office and customer site setting. Through project work, the Test Engineer will be a subject matter expert on design, functionality and systems integration of the solution, while adding value and developing skills. As the Testing Engineer, this role gains exposure, knowledge and skills tied to all areas of the solution, including software, MHE controls, subsystems, and operational design requirements for both Fortna and the customer.  The main goal of this position is to support a successful implementation and identify issues, defects and communicate to the right team to ensure efficient resolution and mitigate risk to the project. This position is heavily focused on customer facing communication and experience throughout the projects lifespan.
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Providing technical and functional leadership on systems assessment, design, and implementation projects, specifically focused on analyzing design requirements, developing test plans, testing execution and issue resolution.
  • Becoming the subject matter expert of the implementation. Working with various workstreams to identify and resolve defects in both internal and customer facing phases of the project
  • Proactively communicate with various teams, both internally and with the customer, to support project objectives efficently
  • Support the planning, organization, and kick-off portions of projects as needed
  • Utilize knowledge and experience in problem solving of multiple phases of a project
  • Gathering, organizing, and analyzing systems-related information to support a successful implementation
  • Providing in-depth testing, training and support services both internally and to customers on Warehouse Management Software (WMS), Warehouse Control Software (WCS), and Warehouse Execution Software (WES) applications, as well as subsystems, that are part of the overall project implementation
  • Leading internal and customer teams in system implementation tasks
  • Preparing detailed test cases, data requirements and other documentation to support test execution
  • Ensuring WMS/WCS/WES and subsystem processes are consistent with functional and technical specifications and operational requirements
  • Understanding customer operational business rules, processes and concepts to support test case development and execution
  • Facilitating third-party subsystems integration of automation technologies into the broader system implementation methodology and developing test plans and test cases as well as test execution to support a successful overall implementation
  • Partnering with software and subsystem project management to transition ownership of solution to customer and support post go live activities as required
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills, both internal to Fortna as well as the customer
  • Articulating communications, both written and oral, to customer and Fortna teams with strong presence, creditability, professionalism, and content knowledge as the subject matter expert of the overall solution
  • Writing and delivering high quality documentation and analysis to both internal and customer workstreams, being able to speak in both technical and layman terms, depending on the audience
  • Supporting customer deliverables and presentations as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, logistics, business management or other fields related to the role
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a management/leadership role within Distribution Center Operations preferably in an automated warehouse
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in consulting, or supporting internal projects related to warehouse operations or implementation of new systems
  • Experience in Distribution Center design, specifically layout, automation and operations
  • Ability to employ persuasion skills with discretion and consideration
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong problem solving and management capabilities
  • Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance
  • Ability to implement structured problem-solving techniques
  • High level comprehension of financial analysis
  • Ability to utilize good facilitation skills

  • Desire to continually add value to and ensure accuracy and quality in all work performed
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally on weekly basis (50 – 60% plus annually as needed)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in industrial engineering within complex distribution center operations
  • CPIM or CIRM certification from Association for Operations Management (APICS)
  • Supply Chain certification training, e.g., The Logistics Institute at Georgia Tech, IIE

The base salary range for this role is $97,800 to $146,700.  This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
