Title: China - Legal Analyst (Mandarin/English)
Client:   Federal Agency
Location:   Remote with travel to Washington, DC.
Ability to Work:  (2-3 days on-site)

Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance; the applicant must be a US Citizen for consideration.

As an International Trade Economist, you will be responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, and providing insights into various aspects of international trade. You will work closely with government agencies, international organizations, research institutions, and private sector entities to assess the impact of trade policies, agreements, and market dynamics on the economy.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Policy Analysis: Evaluate the implications of trade policies, agreements, and regulations on domestic and international markets. Assess the potential economic benefits and drawbacks of trade liberalization measures, tariffs, quotas, and trade remedies.
  2. Market Research: Conduct in-depth research on global trade trends, market dynamics, and the competitiveness of different industries. Analyze trade flows, market structures, and trade barriers to identify opportunities and challenges for businesses and policymakers.
  3. Economic Modeling: Develop and utilize economic models to simulate the effects of trade policies on key economic indicators. Provide forecasts and scenario analyses to support decision-making processes.
  4. Trade Negotiations Support: Provide technical expertise and analysis to support trade negotiations between countries or regions. Assess the potential outcomes of trade agreements and recommend strategies to maximize benefits for all parties involved.
  5. Trade Remedies Investigation: Conduct investigations into unfair trade practices such as dumping, subsidies, and intellectual property violations. Analyze trade data, market trends, and industry dynamics to determine the impact of these practices on domestic industries and recommend appropriate remedies.
  6. Policy Recommendations: Prepare reports, presentations, and policy briefs to communicate research findings and recommendations to policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public. Advocate for evidence-based trade policies that promote economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
  7. Capacity Building: Provide technical assistance and capacity-building support to government officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders in developing countries. Share best practices, methodologies, and tools for trade policy analysis and economic modeling.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, international trade, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in economic modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
  • In-depth knowledge of international trade theory, trade policy frameworks, and trade agreements.
  • Familiarity with trade databases, statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python), and economic modeling tools (e.g., GTAP, Computable General Equilibrium models).
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex economic concepts to diverse audiences in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Experience working in research institutions, government agencies, international organizations, or consulting firms specializing in trade economics.
