Your missions

Overview:

This position is responsible for providing consultation and guidance to senior leaders with respect to broad regulatory matters (current and emerging regulatory risks, trends, and themes) and their impact on the Bank’s business model, strategy, and events with a specific focus on the application of regulatory guidance related to treasury and liquidity as well as resolution and recovery planning. A primary component of

the position will be frequent interaction with regulatory agency personnel and maintenance of productive and professional relationships.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide consultation and advice regarding the application of regulatory guidance to current and contemplated business models, potential transactions and events interfacing with, senior management and various control staff.
  • Maintain and develop in others an understanding of complex compliance and regulatory requirements applicable to the banking industry.
  • Effectively communicate applicable requirements to cross-functional partners throughout the organization (e.g., lines of business, Finance, Treasury).
  • Conduct research and analysis on regulatory treasury and liquidity issues, regulatory accounting and reporting, resolution and recovery, and certain other regulatory matters, as needed, presenting results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Participate in the development of presentations to regulatory agencies as well as internal senior management. Review and critique presentation materials and/or talking points of others with respect to regulatory matters.
  • Assist in the development of new or revised internal policies and participate in the updating and enhancement of other internal policies, procedures, and controls with respect to relevant regulatory matters.
  • Draft and coordinate correspondence with regulatory agencies, including examination responses and responses to ad-hoc regulatory requests. Ensure communications and submissions meet applicable requirements. Enhance, and maintain consistency of regulatory correspondence and reporting across functional areas.
  • Exercise managerial authority over staff to include staffing, employee development, performance management, compensation recommendations and terminations.

  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

compliance with critical regulatory requirements and understand the impact of regulatory requirements on strategic business initiatives."

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

May manage a team of managers and/or analysts.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and minimum of ten (10) years of regulatory, compliance, legal, corporate governance, audit, and/or consulting experience.
Minimum seven (7) years relevant work experience in regulatory relations/regulatory affairs, advising on prudential regulatory expectations, or in supervision at a federal banking agency.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance issues related to the banking industry.
Advanced understanding of regulatory expectations for large US banks 
Advanced knowledge of bank examination/supervisory processes and/or experience working directly with prudential/bank regulators.

Demonstrated knowledge of banking principles and banking products.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Ability to work with other to assess and address gaps in supervisory expectations.
Ability to strategically plan for coming regulatory/supervisory events and developments.
Confidence to challenge management where needed.

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate in an articulate and professional manner.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to convey complex and/or nuanced concepts in an effective and understandable manner.

Physical Requirements:

Travel may be required in minimal instances.
