POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Analytics, Research, and Insights is responsible for leading new and existing analytics and research efforts that generate a holistic understanding of mountain destination guest’s needs, desires, motivations and aspirations. This position serves as the “voice of the guest” by leading customized qualitative and quantitative research and providing action-oriented recommendations derived from deep insights & trends. This leader will also lead the analytics function for the Denver team with a focus on Ikon Pass, destination overflow requests, and special projects of focus. Critical to this role will be the capacity to develop and deploy strategic insights throughout Alterra Mountain Company via data driven learning about our market and guests as well as providing a foundational understanding of current guest behavior and future influences to optimize marketing, sales and operations initiatives.

Overall, this role should be viewed as having four pillars: market research, guest experience, marketing analytics, and customer data analytics. This team’s leader needs to provide a vision and leadership as to each of those functions to holistically and proactively provide insights to the business.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead enterprise and resort-level market research practices to drive guest insights and provide strategic direction to resort operations to be leaders in the travel industry.

  • Create, develop and implement best practices, build process improvements, and mentor analysts to improve overall guest research functions and create new programs.

  • Translate business questions into analytic hypotheses, data needs and reporting requirements with the ability to collaborate and enhance operational excellence.

  • Create enterprise-wide guest satisfaction reports/dashboards using current NPS program and able to synthesizes results into tactical plans to help destinations improve guest loyalty including real product decisions.

  • Lead vision for application of ML and AI into marketing analytics. Create strategies for scaling customer analytics across company.

  • Lead integration of data from disparate marketing sources into analytics platform

  • Lead analytics technology decisions.

  • Craft and prioritize testing strategies and modeling projects.

  • Inventory and evaluate existing research programs, prioritize and focus in-house research efforts as well as manage 3rd-party vendors to optimize the marketing research functions across the enterprise.

  • Refactor, supplement or drive new research programs from inception to sustainable operation.

  • Develop and implement methods for tracking and monitoring the competitive landscape throughout the ski and travel industry.

  • Work closely with marketing and sales teams, using data-driven insights to drive strategic decisions for products, pricing, and programs.

  • Inquisitive by nature and can see relationships between disparate research inputs, generating meaningful conclusions that drive design, product and strategic decisions.

  • Provide presentations both written and verbal that capture thoughts and insights for broad audience including individual product team members to C-level executives.

  • Works across organizational boundaries within a large organization to improve and enhance guest focus in all functional areas to drive immediate results and brand sentiment.

  • Strategic, cross-functional influence that create buy-in from senior leadership for analytical and measurement framework approaches to drive research initiatives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally across all levels of the organization. Able to effectively present information to management, employees, and customers.

  • Demonstrate ability to proactively prioritize needs, put first things first, and effectively manages resources and time. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Able to make independent judgments which have considerable impacts on the organization. Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • A background in customer data, data viz, research, CX, statistics and possibly data viz software and SQL would be helpful.

  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.

  • Working knowledge of computers including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)

  • Expert in understanding a wide variety of research methodologies and have a proven track record of applying the appropriate methods for maximum results

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Market Research, Behavioral Science, Cognitive Science, or Psychology. Masters Degree Preferred.

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience and/or equivalent combination of both education and experience.

  • 5+ years supervisory experience.

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Alterra Mtn Co Shared Services Inc. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of the Company’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Denver area base salary range: $127,000 - $184,000 per year
