The Director, Facilitation and Strategic Planning performs critical organizational development functions, including expert meeting facilitation, agenda design, and strategic planning for various convening models hosted through the ACS National Roundtables and Coalitions Business Unit. Under minimal direction and with independent judgment, this position works in digital and physical environments instituting and consulting on a variety of organizational development services. This position is responsible for ensuring optimal outcomes when hosting convenings of varied size. Desired outcomes include: interactive meeting design and agenda planning, enthusiastic volunteer engagement, building trust and partnership among industry leaders and external volunteers, accurately synthesizing complex ideas and discussions, and ultimately, the development of impactful initiatives.

This is a highly visible position representing the ACS externally; specifically by leading many meetings, summits, and conferences, and requires interaction with individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences. The ideal candidate will be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and excel at navigating and advancing complex conversations with unique group dynamics at all levels.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Meeting Facilitation

  • Organizes, plans, and leads both large (300+ attendees) and small (10+) group gatherings (in-person and virtual) to accomplish predetermined meeting goals and objectives. 

  • Designs meeting processes that accomplish a broad range of goals and objectives, while also creating motivational and memorable learning experiences. 

  • Develops trusting relationships and strong rapport with ACS National Roundtables & Coalitions internal team members, volunteer leadership, and key external members to successfully engage their best thinking, expertise, and various skillsets. 

  • Confidently manages the convening, facilitation exercises, and other pre- and post-convening activities.  

  • Provides direct support, consulting, and coaching to National Roundtables and Coalitions teams on agenda planning, meeting coordination, and other facilitation techniques. 

  • Expands expertise and establishes self as a trusted resource for meeting design and facilitation across the ACS Patient Support Pillar and wider enterprise. 

  • Supports the PS Pillar in expert meeting facilitation as available. 

Meeting Planning and Execution

  • Leads planning and facilitation processes for ACS National Roundtable meetings, summits, and conferences, from conceptualization and planning to implementation and delivery.  

  • Writing comprehensive, actionable, and attainable meeting objectives, agendas, and deliverables.

  • Works with National Roundtable and Coalition Business Unit team members and their volunteer leaders, assists the team in executing on vision, mission, and short- and long-term goals and consults on deliberate changes to their plans, and how to implement those changes.

  • Engages in multiple concurrent projects on a variety of topics and coordinate with relevant team members to effectively manage work plans.

  • Creates and identifies standard processes and/or templates for use by ACS National Roundtables and other ACS programs to use when hosting convenings.  

  • Guide ACS National Roundtable teams in developing meeting summaries and other documentation to formalize and amplify meeting conversations.

  • Works collaboratively with the evaluation team members to establish methods of collecting and tracking data to evaluate performance toward the goals.

Other Duties

  • On occasion, may be called to amplify success of business unit by showcasing achievements via internal and external communications channels.

  • Performs special projects and initiatives as required.

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE  

  • Bachelor's degree in organizational development, Instructional Design, Education, Communications, Psychology, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in facilitation, organizational development, strategic leadership events, coalition building, and/or executive engagement.

SPECIAL MENTAL OR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

  • Travel is required 25%

  • No or very limited physical effort required.

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

The starting rate is $90,000 to $125,000 annual. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
