JOB SUMMARY

The Environment, Health, and Safety Specialist will ensure that equipment, machinery, and processes are designed and operated safely and ensure safe operating procedures are followed across the plant-by-plant operators.

The Environment, Health, and Safety Specialist will address issues related to machine guarding, chemical exposure, industrial hygiene, operational activities, and ergonomic risks.

This is not a remote position.

This position is not eligible for a relocation package, so we recommend candidates in Greater Cincinnati.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily on the floor identification of unsafe acts; root cause determination; hands on training with the operators and supervisors to eliminate risks
  • Develop a high-level understanding of workplace processes and equipment to best discern opportunities for improvement and the elimination of unsafe conditions
  • Survey equipment and facilities, identifying potentially unsafe conditions and implementing remedial processes/equipment to improve
  • Work with corporate EHS to develop key site-specific safety training
  • Performing job hazard analysis recommend/execute appropriate corrective actions
  • Assures the facility complies with safety and environmental programs, regulations, and company policy
  • Develop a partnership with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering functions to help manage change, assure safety and compliance of new systems, and assist in setting requirements to assure safe startup
  • Participates in Sharonville Plant Safety Committee, assesses incidents for root cause, consults and implements corrective actions
  • Engage employees and the leadership team in the process
  • Assist the EHS&S Team in drafting companywide EHS&S programs and finalize them after feedback in alignment with Manufacturing that are on time and technically correct to move DuBois towards common programs that are Suitable, Adequate and Effective (SAE)
  • Develop corresponding EHS&S training and lead training for all locations either in-person or via computer-based training systems
  • Be part of an internal audit team performing multi-media audits
  • Support timely completion of all corporate internal and external audits, reports, and incident investigations
  • Assist with investigations of all EHS incidents
  • Participate in safety reviews of processes and projects
  • Lead and engage the plant level Safety Committee meetings
  • Assist with EHS&S related questionnaires to support business operations

Qualifications

  • 3-5-Years of Professional EHS safety experience
  • EHS safety experience in chemical manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of both OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Basic understanding of ergonomic principals, ability to perform ergonomic assessments and develop ergonomic improvements
  • Team Building experience
  • Effective communicator with a strong influence and a collaborative functional leadership style
  • Collaborative team player with proven interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to engage with all levels of the organization and present formal and informal training
  • Experience with EHS regulatory compliance including analysis of regulatory impact, development of draft compliance programs, education and training of personnel, auditing, and reporting of compliance status
  • Ability to apply regulations to field applicability to recognize compliance, best practices, and/or gaps to the regulations
  • Task oriented and able to function with basic guard rails and clear directives to achieve completion of tasks with a high level of accuracy and quality
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement efforts and corrective actions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate plant employees, vendors, customers, auditors, and senior leaders
  • Proficient with business software platforms
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 / 14001 experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Dynamics [D365]
  • Must be willing to be on the front line of implementation and change
  • A professional and positive demeanor

EDUCATION REQUREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of education and relevant experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Environment, Health, and/or Safety or a related field preferred

Management or Leadership Training preferred

Advanced course work in EHS, chemistry, or engineering with chemical industry experience preferred

Experience with continuous improvement activities, i.e., Kaizen, Plan – Do – Check – Act (PDCA), six sigma, etc. preferred

OTHER INFORMATION

Frequent exposure to wet and humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat (non-weather) and loud noise levels.

Working conditions are a mix of office and manufacturing environment; significant walking, climbing
