McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational materials, is looking for a Vice President of Data & Analytics to lead our efforts in transforming data into actionable insights supporting strategic decision-making and innovation across company. They will act as a strategic partner to various business divisions, enabling them to achieve their objectives through advanced data-driven strategies. This role is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of our business intelligence, machine learning operations, data engineering, and solutions architecture while ensuring robust data governance, managing master data, and driving analytics initiatives that directly contribute to revenue generation and operational efficiency.

The position will provide leadership over three core pillars within McGraw Hill;

  • Data Management - Bring in best practices related to Data Management and mature the organization, with an emphasis on analytics-ready data
  • Analytics (BI/BA) - Implementation of best practice related to Business Intelligence and Business Analysis, with an emphasis on driving actionable insights for the business + KPIs that align to business objectives
  • AI/Machine Learning/Data Science - Establish foundational capabilities; grow and scale to meet needs across the business from product development to operational applications.

Your contribution to the team includes:

  • Leadership and Vision: Provide leadership and direction for the data and analytics teams, developing a clear vision and strategy that integrates with overall business objectives across multiple business units.
  • Organizational Development: Ability to hire key roles into mission critical core competencies, develop team members and position them for success through alignment with business objectives.
  • Business Intelligence Development: Oversee the design and deployment of advanced business intelligence solutions to enhance decision-making processes with a focus on access and usability.
  • Machine Learning Operations: Manage the infrastructure required to support machine learning models, ensuring they deliver sustainable value. Participate in the evaluation and selection of software and tools required to support function.
  • Data Engineering: Lead large-scale data engineering projects and create robust data pipelines to support the creation and hydration of data assets.
  • Solutions Architecture: Establish a solutions architecture competence that focuses on data modeling and the most effective way to organize and structure data. Oversight on the creation and maintenance of enterprise ERD (entity relationship diagrams).
  • Data Governance and Compliance: Implement strong data governance frameworks and practices to ensure data accuracy, privacy, and compliance as well as the processes for data maintenance.
  • Master Data Management: Develop and maintain a master data management strategy that ensures data integrity and consistency across the enterprise as well as provides the foundational data elements for use across the business.
  • Revenue Growth: Collaborate with revenue-generating divisions to identify and execute data-driven strategies that drive revenue and market share.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as the key liaison between executive management and data teams, ensuring data strategies align with executive expectations and business needs.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • Minimum of 13 years in a senior data management role with at least 5 years in a leadership position overseeing large-scale data projects.
  • Bachelors Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Public company reporting experience
  • Expertise in business intelligence tools, data warehousing, big data technologies, machine learning, AI, and cloud services.
  • Ability to determine the optimal solution for business data needs from database type selection to business intelligence front-end tool(s)
  • Ability to evaluate team members and make a determination on where best to deploy against data initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of industry standards and trends in data and analytics.
  • Strong managerial skills with experience in budgeting, resourcing, and project management.

  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of overcoming challenges and delivering on objectives for cross-functional teams.
  • Innovation: Ability to foster an environment of innovation and to stay ahead of the curve in adopting new data technologies and methodologies.
  • Change Management: Experience with change management and the ability to effectively guide an organization through transformational initiatives.

Preferred Experience And Skills

  • Experience with Oracle EDW, Cognos, IBM Planning Analytics and Tableau a plus
  • Masters Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Experience in the education sector a plus

The pay range for this position is between $250,000-$275,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
