Your missions

The Professional Liability Claims Team Lead is a hybrid role responsible for leading a professional liability claims team and adjudicating a reduced pending of miscellaneous professional liability claims. This position is a great way for an experienced adjuster to transition into a leadership role or for an entry-level manager to hone their skills at a rapidly expanding company with potential for growth.

This position will lead and coach a team of 6-8 Professional Liability claims representatives and directly handle a reduced pending of miscellaneous professional liability claims of varying complexity for a variety of professions, including real estate agents, insurance agents, lawyers, allied health medical professionals, interior designers, journalists, authors, estheticians, travel agents, accountants, financial advisors, and more. This position will require the ability to analyze coverage issues in addition to routine claim adjusting functions, a willingness to adapt to our rapidly growing business, and excellent time management skills. Additionally, the position will involve extensive coverage letter drafting and frequent communication with internal and external parties. Strong writing and interpersonal skills are essential. This position will report to the Liability Claims Supervisor.

  • Location: This is a full-time remote position. This position may require occasional travel to attend mediations, trainings, trials and/or other related department meetings.

Job Responsibilities

The Professional Liability Claims Team Lead will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Evaluate, reserve, and manage a reduced pending of Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims to resolution
  • Responsible for team performance, development, and coaching a team consisting of 6-8 professional liability claims representatives
  • Partner with Liability Supervisor and Training & Resource Manager to identify training opportunities
  • Assist team with escalated issues, claim strategies, coverage positions, and guide team members to the appropriate resources
  • Conduct bi-annual performance and development discussions with team members
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders regarding claim status
  • Follow escalation and reporting requirements on claims with significant exposure
  • Conduct team Roundtables and Committees to align on coverage positions and settlement values
  • Draft complex coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters
  • Review and approve team coverage letters, consulting with legal as needed
  • Identify emerging claim trends and exposures
  • Recognize exposures and ensure reserves are adequate and timely
  • Evaluate coverage issues and identify risk transfer opportunities
  • Manage litigation by proper expert selection, planning, budgeting and partnership with defense counsel
  • Conduct weekly team meetings and regular check-in discussions with individual team members
  • Proactively manage claim resolution, including formation and implementation of resolution strategy, settlement valuation and obtaining settlement authority
  • Actively participate in mediations as needed, within limit of settlement authority
  • Document claim files in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines
  • Identify subrogation potential and red flags that require SIU involvement
  • Train new team members; provide ongoing coaching and support to team
  • Maintain adjuster licenses, as required

Preferred Knowledge

  • Active P&C adjuster license
  • Previous Professional Liability claims experience required
  • Previous supervisory experience a plus
  • Prior experience handling litigated claims
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, virtual office environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet assigned deadlines
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and internet applications
  • Highly attentive to details
  • Able to work under pressure and execute good judgment in sensitive situations

  • Self-motivator: works independently with minimal to moderate supervision

EDUCATION:

  • BA/BS degree required
  • AIC, SCLA, CPCU or other industry designation a plus

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience handling professional liability claims preferred

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided.  The starting salary range for this position is $110,000 to 135,000 per year.  Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
