Your missions

Manager, Partnerships, Environment

Partnerships

The Partnerships team works to scale Pew’s impact in the world by building an engaged community of partners and mobilizing resources to advance our vital work.

Position Overview

The manager will be focused on building fundraising and partnership support for needs of the Environment programs, utilizing research, data analytics and existing prospects to increase support and identify new sources of philanthropic and partnership revenue and collaboration. This area is purposefully focused given Pew’s significant investment in the environment space, allowing for a portfolio that is concentrated in a vast area of work for the organization and the interests of current and perspective donors. The manager will focus on portfolio execution, take direction from the director, and establish relationships both internally and externally. The candidate will be metrics-focused in their work and ROI focused in outcomes.

In addition to the specific requirements below, the candidate should possess a strong work ethic and maintain the discretion to handle confidential information. Furthermore, the manager should have the ability to learn systems specific to Pew and Partnerships quickly and be adept at setting priorities and anticipating needs. The manager is expected to become knowledgeable in all facets of Partnerships and support ongoing and special projects across Partnerships as needed. Their responsibilities will continue to develop in line with Partnerships’ and the institution’s growth and needs.

The manager position is based in Washington, DC, reports to the director, Partnerships (Environment), and will participate in Pew’s core in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will have flexibility to work from home the remainder of each week.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Execute an assigned portfolio of prospects to identify areas of philanthropic and partnerships support for the needs of Pew’s Environment portfolio, with a focus on six and seven figure gifts.
  • Manage a team of professional staff in a hybrid work setting, ensuring that team members are coordinated, understand goals, and thrive in a supportive and dynamic team atmosphere.
  • Set a primary goal to develop deep relationships with the Environment Program teams, gaining credibility and a personal affinity for the work being conducted.
  • Work in conjunction with Program staff to understand and translate the value proposition of the work to external audiences.
  • Guided by the scope of prospects’ interests, collaborate with, and refer prospects across the full organization to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of prospects.
  • Work collaboratively with resource mobilization colleagues who are also responsible for portfolio execution, identifying best practices while suggesting process improvements for the benefit of the overall team.
  • Lead the development of written proposals, concept papers, fundraising plans, and the other materials needed to creatively deepen prospect engagement for securing gifts.
  • In coordination with Donor Relations officer, develop and execute comprehensive and creative donor stewardship plans for portfolio.
  • Collaborate closely with Prospect Research and Portfolio Management colleagues to identify, assess, and drive opportunities, and to refine your portfolio.
  • Participate fully in Pew’s Salesforce constituent relationship management and PeopleSoft financial systems, collaborating with Analytics and Administrative team members.
  • Be meticulous in prospect reporting and tracking relationships in the Salesforce.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • Generally, a minimum of eight years of successful fundraising experience, with a demonstrated track record of closing significant investments and philanthropy through creative, entrepreneurial and sophisticated relationship building.
  • Staff, project, and/or consultant management experience required, with a successful demonstrated track record of coaching and motivating team members to success, providing career development advice and counsel, and providing problem resolution support.
  • Ability to lead with, embody, and actively practice a growth mindset in work and interactions.
  • Documented success personally implementing sophisticated cultivation strategies leading to successful closure of six and seven figure gifts.
  • A commitment to producing measurable results combined with creativity in problem solving.
  • Exemplary verbal, written, and editing skills, including the ability to understand and translate an organization’s mission and interests for donors and prospects with clarity, crispness, and effectiveness. Experience developing complex written materials in a short period of time.
  • A commitment to working in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment with respect for accountability and responsibility.
  • Sound judgment and integrity; willingness to try new approaches; and a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and objectives of the institution.
  • Ability to set short-and long-term planning goals in line with program priorities.
  • Demonstrated advanced organization skills and experience handling multiple projects while maintaining focus and flexibility in the face of organizational change and ambiguity.
  • Proven research and analytic skills, with the capacity to investigate an issue, ask thoughtful questions and recommend possible solutions.
