Solution Architect (Product Operating Model)
Weir WBS

UK - Glasgow (Hybrid)

Purpose of Role: As Weir migrates to our new product operating model, and to provide support for our strategic initiatives, we have an immediate requirement for experienced Solution Architects.   Working as part of a Capability Centre of Excellence within our new WBS organisation, these individuals will be assigned to work with a delivery team(s) for extended periods to provide technical leadership and guidance, and help facilitate continuous delivery of value to the business. They are responsible for defining and communicating a shared architectural vision for the product under development and ensure all designs are aligned with our overall Policies and Standards, include our defined Target Enterprise Architecture.

Key Responsibilities: Solution Design and Architecture:

  • Define and communicate a shared technical and architectural vision for the solution, documenting key decision and appropriate designs
  • Ensure alignment with the enterprise architecture and adherence to technical standards
  • Define and document end-to-end solution architectures that address business requirements, scalability, security, and performance.
  • Evaluate existing systems and propose enhancements or replacements as needed.
  • Ensure alignment with the overall product strategy and vision.
  • Represent Delivery team at EA Governance Boards where required

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the Delivery teams
  • Lead the design forum within the product or initiative, work with the team in planning, definition, and high-level design of the solution
  • Maintain architectural documentation, including diagrams, design patterns, and decision logs
  • Mentor engineers and other team members on best practices, design patterns, and architectural principles.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with product managers to understand product roadmaps and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, QA, operations) to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
  • Facilitate communication between business stakeholders and technical teams.

Solution Delivery:

  • Participate in project planning, estimation, and resource allocation.
  • Work with Product and Solution Management to determine the capacity allocation for enablement work
  • Work with the team prior, during and post the PI planning events to ensure a clear architecture runway is delivered to underpin the smooth flow of value from the team
  • Oversee the development process, ensuring adherence to architectural guidelines.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Risk Management:

  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Address performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and scalability challenges.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
· Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for candidates that have the ability to perform the objectives above.

  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Extensive, multi-year experience in architecture and design

  • Strong understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework

  • Experience in working internationally and multi-culturally

  • SAFe v6 Architect

  • Other relevant certifications such as TOGAF, Archimate, SAFe Program Consultant (SPC), SAFe Agilist (SA), Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
