Senior Director, Product Counsel 

What you will be doing:  

  • Partner closely with product and engineering teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept development to go-to-market strategy. 
  • Leverage your years of substantive legal experience to proactively identify and assess potential legal and global regulatory risks associated with our products and services. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to address and mitigate legal and compliance risks in our products. 
  • Build a strong product counseling program and drive cross-functional initiatives across the product development lifecycle. 
  • Hire and manage a product and privacy team. 
  • Stay at the forefront of legal developments in privacy, AI, financial services, and global regulations that impact our products and customers, providing thought leadership and strategic guidance to internal stakeholders. 
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements related to product development and use, including partnership agreements, supply chain agreements and customer-facing terms. 
  • Collaborate with external counsel as needed to manage complex matters with a global scope. 
  • Collaborate with other members of the legal team to achieve our company’s goals. 
  • Contribute to other legal projects as required by the business. 
  • Provide legal training to team members and business stakeholders. 

What you will bring to the team: 

  • A minimum of 10 years of substantive legal experience, with at least 3 years of experience in product counseling, preferably within the in-house legal department of a SaaS company. 
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience managing a team. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in data privacy law and regulations, with a strong understanding of emerging technologies. 
  • Experience working with, and advising on, AI-powered products and services. 
  • Experience and practical insight into customer-driven development dynamics. 
  • Familiarity with open source and experience counseling companies on open-source policy and remediation. 
  • Experience navigating legal and regulatory complexities in global markets. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and navigate complex cross-functional initiatives. 
  • Strong project management skills and a collaborative and proactive approach, with a passion for innovation and a desire to be a strategic partner. 
  • A deep understanding of the SaaS industry, its unique legal challenges, and the global regulatory landscape. 
  • The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Curiosity and a willingness to tackle new challenges.  

Bonus points if you have: 

  • Experience working with financial services customers. 
  • A coding background or a strong understanding of technical concepts. 
  • Experience working at a startup or fast-paced growth company.
