The primary purpose of the role is to increase knowledge and awareness of Alcon Surgical Advanced Technologies by designing, delivering and executing education and training initiatives that are aligned to the overall Medical Education and Events strategy.

The role will also identify opportunities and optimise the patient pathway with a focus on Optometrists as well as Ophthalmologists and their clinic staff to optimise the patient journey and outcomes.

The Professional Development Manager will cover New South Wales, ACT and New Zealand with a focus on below key responsibilities:

  • Work collaborately with the Clinical Marketing & Education Manager and the wider Marketing team to identify opportunities for portfolios and key customer segments:
    • Assist in design and implementation of professional education aligned to specific Advanced technology and key customer segments
    • Follow adult learning principles and medical education best practice
    • Facilitate education delivery and access by leveraging various channels and formats, included but not limited to: field visits, didactic programs – face to face and virtual, faculty-led, on demand and distance learning
  • Work collaboratively with the Sales Team to identify opportunities within a defined territory
  • Work collaborately with the Alcon Vision Care Franchise to leverage access to the Optometry segment and provide optimum customer experience as OneAlcon
  • Manage end-to end event process for 3rd party and Alcon led events, including approvals, logistics, liaison with agencies, communication, faculty management and post-event reporting and follow-up as appropriate
  • Develop and finalise educational assets and practice development tools for ophthalmologists, clinical and practice support staff and optometrists as appropriate
  • Work with Ophthalmic clinic management and practice staff
    • On patient identification and retention, to develop appropriate in practice tools and patient education resources
    • To build awareness of current barriers to cataract surgery referral
  • Engage with target referrer optometrists via education and in-practice coaching to to improve patient outcomes and referral pathway optimisation
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Marketing & Education Manager, develop KOL engagement plans specific to Advanced Technologies

Skills and Experiences (Minimum):

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the optometric and/or ophthalmic industries, ideally both
  • Solid understanding of the referral pathway for cataract surgery
  • Practice management and business development experience in optometry and/or ophthalmology
  • Understanding of key MS Office applications, particularly MS PowerPoint and Excel
  • Flexible with travel requests, including regional areas and New Zealand
