Position: Project Engineer

 

Location: North America

This position can work from home when not visiting plants or suppliers, so this position is not located at an MTI facility.  Travel is required for this position and will vary from 20% to 50%.

 

Job Summary:

A Project Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and works closely with Plant Managers and their local maintenance teams in North America. 

 

Compensation: $100,000/yr - $150,000/yr, based on experience

 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Recommending and implementing cost and quality improvements;
  • Utilizing technical knowledge, experience, and common sense in the modification of existing processes and design of new processes;
  • Developing and preparing engineering and operational estimates for capital improvements;
  • Preparing project scopes, schedules and coordinating work between in-house resources and various contractors;
  • Preparing equipment specifications;
  • Preparing cost analyses and technical reports;
  • Management of approved project budget by monitoring and issuing purchase orders;
  • Technical support for installations and commissioning of equipment as well as providing technical support follow installations;
  • Other special projects and duties as required.

  • 4 years Bachelor’s of Science degree in an Engineering discipline, or 10+ years of manufacturing equipment/machinery maintenance and installation
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in packaged goods manufacturing
  • Incumbent must be a self-starter who seeks responsibility and is able to work with minimal direction.
  • Must be proficient in personal computers, including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Incumbent must possess excellent organizational and written and oral communication.
  • Must have strong facilitation skills and leadership potential, the ability to influence and drive change coupled with excellent interpersonal skills. Incumbent must be able to work effectively with all levels of employees within the company.
  • Incumbent must have demonstrated a willingness to challenge conventional ideas, to be a flexible, an innovative individual and one who can function effectively in a team format.
  • Can demonstrate cross functional operations experience with an understanding of various plant functions.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanical and electrical systems with strong problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge in the field of control technology (Allen Bradley and Siemens)
  • Basic knowledge about pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Good English knowledge, particularly technical terminology
  • The ability and confidence to work with international customers and colleagues
  • Must be able to gather organize, and analyze data, draw conclusions, and report via digital communication

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Able to read and understand wiring diagrams of PLC and I/O systems.
  • PLC programming experience
  • Expertise in computer aided drafting , 3D modeling with ability to take CAD files and generate layout drawings to show equipment on the facility floor.
  • Able to create detailed engineering drawings.
  • Financial budgeting and investment analysis.

 

Physical & Mental:

Work Hours: Hours may vary depending on the scope of a specific project meaning subject to work overtime, holidays, weekends as necessary. Travel away from home will also be necessary.

Working Conditions:  Working inside a controlled office environment or customer facilities.  Also, must be able to withstand the physical pressures of standing, walking, climbing steps, sitting, extremes of hot and cold, as well as being in a dusty, dirty industrial environment. 

Travel: Business travel within North America. to perform job duties is necessary.  Travel may be in a motor vehicle, public transportation, or air travel.

Physical Abilities: Ability to lift 50#. undertake This position must be able to handle stress.

Safety Equipment: Safety equipment required while performing the duties of this job include but not limited to an ANSI approved hardhat and safety glasses, safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection. Also, may be required to wear goggles, cotton or high impact gloves, work vest, respirator, and Hearing Protection,

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training in person or via webinars.

Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by MSHA/OSHA regulations.
