Job Summary

This is an opportunity to apply for a data science position within the Prevention and Population Health Unit based at the trust. The Unit works with other key partners in Wolverhampton including Wolverhampton City Council and the other members of the One Wolverhampton place-based partnership and aims to help health and social care services better identify the needs of the local population and shift the focus from treatment to prevention and early intervention.

We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic individual with a background in Data Science. You will be eager to develop your technical skills and gain further experience helping deliver insightful and impactful population health analysis.

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will mainly involve applying data science techniques to a wide range of health-related data sets in order to provide insights on the health of the population in the Wolverhampton place-based area.

We encourage interest from individuals with interest and experience in: R/R Studio, Python, MS Excel, SQL, PowerBI, machine learning, statistical analysis, and reporting on complex data.

Job responsibilities

To provide statistical insight and analysis of population health in Wolverhampton.

Be able to explain complex information to a wide range of audiences to support decision makers.

Proactively learn new data science methods and ideas to ensure that you can work across a range of projects, you will be fully supported to learn throughout your time in the team.

Implement new and changing policies within area of responsibility taking into account, Trust, Local and National Guidelines.

Analyse large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns.

Correlate analysis with information from a variety of external sources (including demographic data, social deprivation, census etc.).

Create automation processes for the management of key population health datasets on an ongoing basis.

To use robust statistical and analytical techniques and a range of software to interpret highly complex data gathered from a wide variety of sources.

Use complex queries written in SQL to interrogate data.

Present information using data visualisation techniques.

Required to plan and organise analysis workload including ongoing updating of an analysis workplan. Requiring adjustment due to fluctuating workload, prioritising unpredictable and conflicting demands.

Use statistical and mathematical modelling techniques such as logistic regression and simulation to inform analysis.

Contribute to research papers, research proposals and policies on an ongoing basis.

Perform within an environment where intense concentration is required throughout the day on a wide variety of complex issues.

Regularly conducts data quality audits to ensure the maintenance of quality outputs.

Frequent VDU use is required for this post for periods exceeding 4 hours at a time.

Keep up to date with prescribed mandatory training within the trust.
