The Enterprise Underwriter role provides an optimal experience to our sales partners and merchants. The primary focus of this position is to perform a periodic review of NAB’s high exposure merchant relationships by obtaining all necessary information to perform financial analysis and risk based due diligence. 

What you'll do:

  • Conduct periodic credit reviews within an assigned portfolio and quantify results in a narrative format based on processing models, metrics and a detailed financial analysis resulting in verbal and written  recommendations to management consistent with NAB’s risk appetite.
  • Perform financial analysis and prepare Credit Risk Assessments of existing merchants with detailed recommendations and creative risk mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze high exposure merchants with varying risk dependencies and credit quality associated with diverse business types and processing environments.
  • Execute against Credit Policy driven collateral strategies to minimize losses by implementing reserves, sourcing letters of credit and/or administering funding holds.
  • Monitor the phone queue taking inbound calls and making outbound calls to sales partners and merchants.
  • Communicate effectively with merchants, sales representatives, internal departments, and management as necessary to obtain financial information or other documentation necessary to complete merchant and/or applicant reviews.
  • Provide Approval Authority support for sign-off requests from teammates that are above their authority but within yours.
  • Review and make recommendations to update department policies and procedures based on changing industry trends or process adjustments.
  • Work collectively with other ERM Department personnel for required enhanced due diligence reviews or to obtain historical data and feedback regarding assigned accounts.
  • Other duties may be assigned by Portfolio Management leadership.

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting (or equivalent work experience).
  • Two (2) Years of Financial Analysis experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a commercial underwriting environment or analyzing financial data in the payments industry or related field.
  • Effectively interprets and applies understanding of key financial indicators to make business decisions.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills and emotional intelligence to be able to manage relationships with merchants, internal staff and external customers (agents, vendors and key business partners relationships).
  • Must be comfortable and confident in handling a position of authority when making underwriting decisions, as well as executing accurate judgment in regards to interactions with sales partners and merchants over the phone and through email.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and handle combination of relationships with merchants, internal staff and external customers (agents, vendors and key business partners relationships)..
  • Critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem solving skills with the ability to independently solve problems using data.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff, management, vendors, sales agents, and merchants.
  • Ability to adapt priorities for peak periods to ensure consistency of service levels for sales partners and merchants.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule in support of departmental needs.

How to stand out:

  • Two (2) years of Sales Relationship Management experience preferred
  • Experience in the merchant payment processing industry highly preferred.
