A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a Health & Safety Manager overseeing the Eastern region of the U.S. for Montrose Environmental Solutions (MES) Segment, you will report to the Safety Director. The Health & Safety Manager will assist the Safety Director with strategic planning and support the day-to-day safety performance for the U.S. East MES Segment. The duties below are anticipated but may change based on the candidate’s skillset and knowledge base.

Job Duties:

  • Build interpersonal relationships with the Safety Director and MES Operations Management to achieve a high level of safety performance across the area of responsibility

  • Interaction with People Managers and Project Managers to ensure safety is actively considered in planning and executing work and in staff’s daily work

  • Mentors staff members to ensure they have the health and safety tools, training and knowledge necessary to perform their day-to-day job functions

  • Works with the Safety Director and Divisional Management to ensure compliance with governmental regulations, company, client-specific health and safety programs

  • Drive standardization of HSE practices through the teams to achieve continuous improvement in HSE performance

  • Serve as the primary technical signatory of instruments of service such as Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Health & Safety Plans (HASPs), risk assessments, site assessments/audits, or client memoranda

  • Provide HSE support to client locations that include federal, petrochemical, utility, and other project sites

  • Supports HAZWOPER and medical surveillance program training and compliance

  • Assesses and audits project safety and health compliance, communicates with the project team on areas of improvement, and documents the audit and corrective actions in our EHS software

  • Inspect workplace environments, activities, and conditions to verify compliance with local, state and OSHA requirements

  • Measure and report on KPIs and utilize HSE systems to foster improved HSE performance

  • Leads incident investigations to identify root causes and appropriate corrective actions to aid in preventing recurrence of similar incidents in the future

  • Supports development and effectively delivers health and safety presentations and/or operating procedures for company-wide practice to achieve continuous improvement in HSE performance.

  • Develops periodic written HSE communications to reinforce relevant topics

Your Expertise and Skills

  • Degree in Safety or Environmental or related field

  • 3-10+ years of relevant safety work experience

  • Certified Safety Professional (ability to obtain required)

  • General knowledge of Federal and State OSHA requirements 

  • Self-motivated and able to prioritize tasks with competing priorities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other related business applications/software

  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, capable of managing multiple projects, and has strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in Environmental Consulting

  • Experience on federal projects that follow EM-385-1-1

  • Prior Health or Industrial Hygiene experience

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction or General Industry training

  • Experience with HAZWOPER projects and 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to navigate remote and rugged project locations.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, both domestically and internationally.

  • Ability to work at a desk and/or computer for extended hours
