Purpose:

Delta Faucet Company has an extraordinary opportunity for a Packaging Engineer to join our Indianapolis Engineering Team! Our Packaging engineers design, develop, and implement complete new product packaging solutions that exceed the expectations of Delta's customers. Are you well-organized, self-directed, and enjoy the flexibility to develop creative solutions to problems? If so, this is the opportunity for you! Delta's packaging engineers work with Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and external suppliers to support new product development, quality improvements, customizations, and cost reductions. You also should possess analytical ability and technical expertise in available packaging materials, packaging material manufacturing processes and a deep understanding of the way in which products are packaged in a consumer products manufacturing environment. You will need to make decisions in uncertain environments and synthesize solution options for management. This is an opportunity to join our team in a full-time, position that is anticipated to last 12-24 months, and includes standard benefits.

Responsibilities:

· Coordination of the design, development and production of packaging components and graphics with external partners.

· Serve as the technical lead for packaging on specific projects and taking ownership of all aspects of packaging design control on these projects.

· Collaborate with marketing, engineering and operations to develop innovative concepts and solutions for product packaging structure and graphics.

· Analyze packaging problems, identify root causes, and develop creative options for packaging opportunities.

· Apply company standards to ensure graphics, copy and compliance / regulatory related information is accurately applied and crafted into packaging components.

· Verify and validate efficiency of packaging designs by conducting packaging transit and environmental tests per ISTA standards.

· Author and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) as needed and effectively communicate implications of packaging changes and requirements to all affected functional areas.

· Identify, develop, and implement packaging quality improvements, cost reductions, and customizations to meet customer and market needs.

· Lead all aspects of the creation of packaging drawings, samples and written analysis of proposed packaging designs for approval.

· Develop pallet stacking patterns, product packaging layouts and instructions for assembly.

· Populate and maintain packaging attribute data within Delta’s ERP/PLM system.

· Ensure packaging designs stay in sync with company operations and ergonomic requirements.

Education & Experience:

· Possess a BS in Packaging Engineering or related degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Experience should include design with corrugated, folding cartons, plastic thermoforms, pulp trays and fabricated and molded cushioning foams.

· You should also have experience with the packaging development, production and printing processes, packaging material selection, engineering documentation and packaging standards, and standardized transportation testing.

· Experience with design for manufacturability, ergonomics and PPAP steps for verification and validation of first production packaging from suppliers is required.

· Proficiency with MS Office applications, TOPS or CAPE and product life-cycle management applications is needed.

· You should have excellent communication and creative problem-solving ability and exhibit solid engineering judgment and ethics.

· You need the ability to work on multiple projects and be able to work both independently and as part of a fast-paced team.
