GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION

Position Name: Assistant Professor/Clinical Coordinator – Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Online/Remote)

Classification: Exempt, benefitted

FTE: Full-time

Work Hours: Variable due to online nature of program. Generally, 9a-3p PST M-F, with remainder on evenings or weekends.

Department/Division: College of Graduate Studies

Supervisor: Director, Clinical Mental Health Counseling program

POSITION SUMMARY

The assistant professor/clinical coordinator of the clinical mental health counseling program is responsible for teaching 6, 4-credit courses per academic year (clinical and/or academic). The clinical coordinator administrative load includes site development and management, regular communication with and training of site supervisors/administrators, collaboration with clinical faculty, coordination of student placements and clinical data using the approved platform, monitoring of student and site supervisor responsibilities, and management of any student remediation plans related to clinical/ethical issues. The candidate for this position must be eligible for inclusion as core, full time faculty for MPCAC accreditation, including maintaining a counselor identity and be an Approved Clinical Supervisor through CCE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching (40%)
1.    Teach 6 courses per academic year including those related to counseling theory; psychopathology; professional identity; multiculturism; ethics; counseling methods; research; tests and assessments; group counseling; career counseling; clinical practicum and internship; and specialty/elective areas.
2.    Prepare syllabi; update course materials; participate in course and program learning outcome assessments; continuously improve course materials; and develop curriculum.
3.    Deliver instruction in an online learning environment using available university learning management and HIPAA-compliant document storage systems. 
4.    Provide detailed feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner while working to maintain engaging and respectful interactions with students.
5.    Provide ethical clinical supervision to practicum and internship students including review of student recordings, case conceptualization reports, self-evaluations, site and site supervisor evaluations, hours logs, and all required documentation related to site development and maintenance, including remediation plans as necessary. 
6.    Demonstrate a commitment to building a learning community empowered through multicultural perspectives that lead to cultural competence and emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty.    40%
 

Clinical Coordination (40%)
1.    Manage and respond to student inquiries and site supervisors regarding clinical placement opportunities.
2.    Help recruit, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate field placement for graduate counseling students, including review of affiliation agreements; assessment of agency commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and review of all required documentation.
3.    Monitor, assess, and guide field experiences and provide support and consultation to students, site supervisors, and university supervisors.
4.    Develop, schedule, and provide supervision training opportunities for site supervisors.
5.    Provide support to and problem-solve with site supervisors.
6.    Intervene promptly in the resolution of critical incidents experienced by students or sites in field placements.
7.    Plan, develop, and implement field orientation for students prior to being placed in field experiences.
8.    Assist in planning, developing, and implementing two training workshops (CEU certified) each year in collaboration with counseling faculty; both to include specific content related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in supervision.
9.    Review student evaluations of sites and site supervisors, providing follow-up as needed.
10.    Provide reports and/or updates to the counseling faculty and counseling program director on incidents encountered during clinical experiences.
11.    Utilize Supervision Assist (or university approved tool) to prepare students and supervisors for documentation and task requirements.
12.    Provide direction and feedback to students and supervisors about their utilization of Supervision Assist (or other university approved tool)

Advising and Student Relations (10%)

Advising and Student Relations
1.    Provide programmatic advising to assigned advisees on topics related to professional identity and development, academic challenges, preparation for clinical placement, and mentoring.
2.    Aid students experiencing difficulty with courses or life challenges that may interrupt degree completion, including referral to Student Success, other departments, or development of remediation plans, with demonstrated thoughtfulness about issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion that could impact student performance.
3.    Maintain written documentation about advising meetings.
4.    Effectively communicate institutional standards for graduation.
5.    Evaluate student transfer credit applications.
6.    Work effectively with Registrar to report concerns about student program enrollment or transcript information.
7.    Work collaboratively with other university programs to ensure smooth student transitions for students enrolled in integrated degree programs.

Applicant Interviews and New Student Orientation (5%)
1.    Work with Admissions department to review application materials and schedule applicant interviews.
2.    Interview applicants with other CMHC faculty.
3.    Score applicant interview responses using an established matrix to make admission decisions.
4.    Be present during remote new student orientation, including interaction with students in an established Canvas Program Orientation course.
5.    Schedule and host a virtual new student open house with other CMHC faculty twice per year.
6.    Regularly check in with newly admitted students during their first term.

Scholarship, Service and Professional Identity (5%)
1.    Maintain memberships with American Counseling Association and state and regional professional associations.
2.    Maintain licensure and supervision credentials, including personal liability insurance.
3.    Consistently engage in professional writing and publication efforts, including with students when possible.
4.    Participate in research with program peers and other university staff when possible. 
5.    Engage with students as dissertation chair or committee member when available and when subject matter is consistent with publication interests.
6.    Assist students to present or publish at state, regional, or national association conferences or in periodicals or peer-reviewed journals.
7.    Participate in university service through committee work, collaborations, and ad hoc projects/initiatives.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Education & Training: Doctoral degree with graduate education and training in counseling from an accredited institution, preferably from an MPCAC or CACREP accredited program or doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Educational Administration) AND to have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for at least a full academic year BEFORE July 1, 2013.

Certifications & Licenses: Current Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor or licensure (3 years preferred); Current national supervisor credential or nationally approved supervisor credential eligible to be completed within one year of hire; Current membership and participation in appropriate state, regional, and national professional organizations.

Experience: Prior experience as a CMHC clinical supervisor for counselors-in-training or professional counselors; Evidence of at least three years of full-time equivalent teaching in Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Experience as a mental health counselor; Experience as a clinical coordinator; Evidence of published, scholarly work; Experience with applicant interviews, academic planning, and student advising; Experience with curriculum development and assessment; Experience in managing student concerns in online learning format.

Related Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Self-sufficiency in the management of personal schedule; Proficient in document/report preparation adhering to institutional editorial guidelines; Intermediate-to-advanced computer skills required (MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat Professional); Proficiency with video conferencing systems; Working understanding and experience with Canvas (or equivalent) learning management system.

Other Qualifications: Professional interpersonal skills including effective verbal and written communication; Effective management of faculty and students in professional degree programs; Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and shared governance; Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize/execute plans and resource management to achieve desired teaching outcomes; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Ability to exercise professional judgment and assume responsibility in clinical decision making; Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment and learn new systems and processes; Willingness and ability to follow direction from director, dean, administrators as consistent with university policy; Working knowledge of FERPA student privacy regulations; Commitment to this position as primary full-time employment.

Preferred

Education & Training: Graduate education in sport and performance psychology is a bonus.

Certifications & Licenses: Experience with higher education accreditation standards and compliance analysis is desirable; Experience with self-study reports, accreditation evaluation team membership, and/or accreditation committee membership is desirable.
