At Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology, our Autonomous Systems is redefining autonomy, automation and robotics in a completely new and brilliant way! We are looking for a passionate candidate interested in joining our Mission Autonomy team in the Autonomous Systems discipline team.
This is a technology focused role to shape future of aerospace and defense technologies from concept definition through to demonstration.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and evaluate algorithms, models, and simulation tools for airspace management, conflict detection and resolution, and integration of unmanned aerial vehicles into the national airspace system.
Design operational procedures and workflows for the deployment and integration of AAM/IAM/UAM/RAM/UTM/U-Space systems into existing air traffic management infrastructure, considering factors such as scalability, interoperability, and human factors.
Bridge the gap between research and operations by translating theoretical concepts and experimental findings into practical solutions and operational guidelines that can be implemented by AAM/IAM/UAM/RAM/UTM/U-Space stakeholders.
Partner with universities, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations to meet organizational objectives within time and budget constraints. In particular in the EU SESAR program.
Basic Qualifications
Requires a PhD degree in relevant field for airspace operations and systems, or a relevant Master degree with 2-4 years of industrial experience.
Strong background in aviation systems, including knowledge of airspace structure, air traffic control procedures, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., FAA, EASA, ICAO).
Motivated self-starter with a strong enthusiasm to grow technologies, and business value propositions.
Experience with simulation tools and platforms for airspace modelling and analysis (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, STK).
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++, with experience in developing and implementing algorithms for ATM and/or AAM/IAM/UAM/RAM/UTM/U-Space.
Familiarity with industry standards and initiatives for UAS (e.g., ASTM, RTCA, CORUS) and NextGen airspace modernization efforts.
Willing to champion and challenge the technical status quo.
