ICF is currently seeking a Research Manager for our Survey Research Science and Operations portfolio. If successful, you will support the Higher Education Research & Development (HERD) Survey. The HERD Survey is an annual economic survey of U.S. universities and colleges conducted since 1972 sponsored by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics. It is the primary source of information on R&D expenditures at U.S. universities and colleges and the annually produced ranking tables are an important resource to the higher education community.  You will also support a variety of research projects across a wide array of topics and clients at the state and federal level.

This is a great position for a mid-level professional who will join our team in a REMOTE capacity.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute methodological or technical guidance in support of quantitative or qualitative research projects or tasks involving web, mail, telephone, in-person, and other data collection activities.

    • For the HERD web survey this includes recommending changes to collection instruments, programmed validations, and survey processes based on analysis of collected data, metadata, or paradata. Also, directing the implementation of changes through detailed requirements documents to programmers, creation and training of new processes, and development of monitoring tools.

  • Manage one or more concurrent survey-related projects.

    • Prepare project plans, manage schedules and performance using effective project management processes and frameworks.

    • Proactively manage and communicate with a team of cross-matrixed professionals, ensuring smooth team operations and effective collaboration.

    • Serving as the key point of contact to clients, providing excellent service, managing expectations, and producing products that demonstrate results.

  • Communicate effectively in writing—proposals, analytic reports, issue papers, briefings, and formal and informal email correspondence.

  • Actively participate in business development activities—creating innovative approaches to complex studies, managing the proposal process, writing proposal sections, developing proposal budgets.

What you must have:

  • At least a master’s degree in social science (e.g., sociology, psychology, economics), mathematics, statistics, or finance.

  • 3+ years or more years of applicable work experience in the following:

    • Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end research projects, including literature reviews, data visualization, and written presentation of conclusions.

    • Advanced skill in any quantitative analysis software (Excel essential, SPSS, STATA or R).

    • Professional writing experience; including academic and/or research publications, report writing, scientific writing, and/or proposal writing in support of research grants and/or business development proposals.

What we would like for you to have (preferred qualifications):

  • Collecting and/or analyzing enterprise-level financial data.

  • Managing web surveys.

  • Qualitative, as well as quantitative, data analysis.

  • Mentoring others in research and reporting skills.
