About the Role:

This is a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in building a strong financial foundation for a fast-growing company with significant market opportunity.  In this role, you will be a trusted business partner to R&D leadership with a focus on delivering world class Cloud Margin across our Product Portfolio.  This role reports directly to Confluent’s Sr. Director of R&D Finance.

What You Will Do:

• Lead Cloud Gross Margin planning, forecasting, and operational execution in close partnership with Cost Engineering and Cost Product Management
• Manage our Cloud Service Provider (AWS/Azure/GCP) relationships from the Finance side including discounts, negotiations, spend commitments, & Marketplace purchases
• Be a key member of the Engineering cost review process, helping to review and approve proposed changes and incorporate into Cloud Margin estimates
• Own Cash Forecasting for our CSP’s based on spend projections, RI/SP purchases, etc
• Provide regular insights around key Cloud Margin levers such as Multi-Tenant mix, RI Coverage, CSP Mix, and Discounting behavior to highlight risks and opportunities
• Develop Build vs Buy Analysis on new software business cases driven from R&D
• Prepare executive-grade management reporting, summarizing findings and recommendations for our Cloud Products
• Partner with our Accounting team and Eng Program Managers to perform key month-end close activities impacting Cloud Gross Margin including Software Capitalization and Engineering On-Call surveys

What You Will Bring:

• 8+ years of FP&A experience in a high-growth, public software company
• A deep understanding of Cloud Gross Margin components is required for this role
• At least 3 years of experience in a hands-on business partnering role with an enthusiastic “roll up your sleeves” mentality
• Effective communication at a detailed technical level while having the ability to elevate for high-level consumption by executives
• Excellent financial modeling and analytical skills with a high degree of forecast accuracy
• Ability to roll up your sleeves and really understand the data at a detailed level

What Gives You an Edge:

• Previous experience working with Cloud Service Providers a big plus
• Prior experience working with an R&D Organization is highly desirable
• Prior experience with Anaplan and NetSuite a plus

We analyze and carefully consider several factors when determining compensation, including work history, education, professional experience, and location. This position has an annual estimated salary of $145,500 - $171,000 an annual bonus, and a competitive equity package.
