Description

Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is hiring Grants Specialists to support our revenue-enhancing strategies in grant-seeking/grant-managing, philanthropic development, and community engagement. The position will serve as the lead writer for new grant proposals, including serving as the project coordinator for all required components and collaborating with program leads on project design. The position will also manage a portfolio of active grants, including implementation, reporting, budget monitoring, and collaborating with both internal and external partners.

 

Shift. We have flexible work schedules including 4- and 5-day workweeks. We have a hybrid work schedule where you can enjoy working remotely half-time and work in the office 2 days per week!

 

About you.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented with strong organizational, writing, and project coordination skills. The ideal candidate has experience with grant writing for private foundation, local government and federal funders and has served as the lead administrator on large grant projects, with preferred experience working in a human services or healthcare field.

 

About the team.

The Grants Strategy Team oversees and coordinates the full life cycle of grants, including prospecting, project development, proposal writing and submission, new project implementation, and ongoing award monitoring. The team partners with clinical programs, evaluation, accounting, and other departments to design and implement grant projects that align with and support the strategic initiatives of the agency. The team coordinates grants from private, local government, state, and federal funders that support programs across Aurora Mental Health Center and Aurora Research Institute.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as lead administrator for a portfolio of 10-20 active grants, including full life cycle development and management, managing, and prioritizing deadlines, and serving as the primary contract for internal program leads and departments.
  • Research, identify and qualify prospective sources of funding from the public (government), private (philanthropic), and corporate sources.
  • Lead project development, design and proposal writing in collaboration with program leads and other internal departments and prepare proposal submission in adherence to all requirements and deadlines.
  • Perform extensive grant administrative functions, including preparing reports, monitoring submission status, tracking deliverables, compliance with grant administration policies and procedures according to state, federal and funder-specific regulations, and coordinating any other required administrative compliance for grants.
  • Maintain internal reporting systems, accurate historical records, and a comprehensive internal grant file.
  • Coordinate implementation of grant projects, including coordinating meetings, tracking action items, managing deadlines and deliverables, and conducting ongoing monitoring of progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate ongoing monitoring of project expenditure, including working with finance staff to gather and track spending, updating internal records, providing clear communication to project team regarding spending status, developing plans to ensure expenditure of all funds in alignment with approved budget, and completing both internal and formal budget modifications in adherence to funder requirements.
  • Develop and foster relationships with program and contract officers of funding agencies, including representing AMHR during grant-related site visits, presentations, and requirement grantee meetings, and, as appropriate, serving as the primarily liaison and coordinator with grant funding agencies.
  • Support compliance monitoring and audits from funding agencies, including coordination with Quality Improvement team, gathering requested documentation, and guidance regarding grant-specific requirements and processes.
  • Prepare and produce other information resources as necessary to support revenue-enhancing strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in humanities, social sciences, or business is required.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a position with primary responsibilities in some mix of grants, philanthropic development, information management, and project management is required.
  • Previous experience in managing government or philanthropic awards is preferred.
  • Previous experience in writing grants for healthcare or other nonprofit organizations is preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills with documented ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Excellent budget monitoring skills with documented ability to utilize Microsoft Excel. 
  • Strong editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of grant administration systems, processes, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated experience using databases.
  • Ability to accurately prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to perform successfully within time constraints and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as in close collaboration with others.
  • Willingness to abide by the professional fundraising ethics and principles as adopted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals

 

Required Vaccinations.

AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and receive an annual influenza (flu) shot prior to their first day of hire. Proof of both vaccinations will be required upon your first day of employment. Medical and religious exemptions may be requested for the COVID 19 vaccine and/or annual flu shot.

 

Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.

  • $26.16 - $39.22 per hour
