Job Description
The Senior Research Development Officer, under direction, provides professional development for faculty in grant application preparation, developing new grant programs, coordinating & analyzing effectiveness of training activities, managing grant programs, and maintaining the University’s centers and institutes database. This position can be on-site, remote (in Texas) or hybrid and is a 40-hour per week non supervisory position.
This position is temporarily funded. Continued employment is contingent on funding availability.
Responsibilities:
-Works with researchers in the development and writing of proposals to federal agencies or foundations. Connects researchers to funding opportunities and research resources.
-Provides advice to individual faculty and other PI-eligible investigators on funding opportunity announcement (FOA) requirements, with a focus on federal grant opportunities. Provides advice on writing grant applications responsive to FOAs, with attention to the review criteria and the application guide. Advises on elements of competitive grant applications. Provides support in proposal narrative development, review, critiquing, and editing.
-Confers with individual faculty regarding the review of previous grant applications and strategy on resubmission.
-Develops tools, templates, and guidance documents related to proposal development and checklists for solicitation components.
-Creates and delivers workshops and seminars on research development, proposal development, broader impacts, and federal funding agency communication. Coordinates all faculty professional development activities, provides one-on-one consultation with faculty on proposal re-submission and proposals.
-Manages grant programs. Develops and implements time lines and requests for proposals, recruits and oversees Proposal Review Board, prepares annual program reports, and ensures that program goals and objectives are met. Conducts program assessments.
-Disseminates notices about research progress and successful funding. Posts new funding opportunities, news and events. Monitors agency news services for announcements of new program initiatives, funded awards, and new energy publications and posts data accordingly. Monitors ongoing policy developments on state and national level and posts data accordingly.
Education and Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
-Four years of experience developing or writing proposals to or for federal, state or private agencies.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-Master's degree
-Proven experience in developing or writing successful proposals to or for federal, state or private agencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Oral and written communication skills
Organizational skills.
Ability to independently make decisions.

The target base annual salary is $72,870 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
