Overview:

Foundry/CSOonline.com seeks a versatile, motivated reporter with a solid grasp of enterprise IT security technology to join our award-winning team. The senior writer’s coverage should make the site a must-read destination for IT security leaders by delivering articles tailored to help our audience better direct their organizations, make smart security spending decisions, and advance their own careers.

Coverage could include reporting on industry developments; rendering sharp analysis of security news, research, or surveys; explaining complex technologies or concepts and connecting them to the broader security risk management context; or examining trends of particular interest to IT security leaders through more in-depth reporting.

The ability and eagerness to develop relationships with CISOs as primary sources is essential.

The position reports to the Executive Editor and candidates can be located in any of our US office locations or remotely in the US.

• Writing a mix of clear, compelling, and insightful news, survey analyses, profiles, case studies, and short features, favoring CISOs as primary sources
• Collaborating with CSOonline colleagues to ensure balanced and broad coverage that meets our senior IT leadership audience’s information needs
•  Cultivating a network of CISO and industry analyst sources
•  Participating in virtual and in-person events as necessary

• 3 + years of full-time experience as a writer in a dynamic journalistic environment
• Demonstrate understanding of enterprise security technology and issues of import to the audience
• Provide writing samples that demonstrate the ability to craft compelling articles for a professional audience, including original analysis and interviews as primary sourcing
• Self-starter seeking to build a career reporting on cybersecurity in a business context.
• Comfortable juggling multiple assignments and ability to deliver timely, creative, and compelling copy and headlines.
• Understanding of SEO and how to optimize content for digital traffic
• Ability to develop and maintain industry sources, excellent reporting and rapid writing skills.

This role can be based out of our Needham MA office in a hybrid work environment or approved remote US location.

IDG is committed to paying our team equitably for their work, commensurate with their individual skills and experience.  Salary range and additional compensation, including discretionary bonuses and incentive pay, are determined by a rigorous review process taking into account the experience, education, certifications and skills required for the specific role, equity with similarly situated team members, as well as employer-verified region-specific market data provided by an independent 3rd party partner. At IDG we are committed to fair and equitable pay practices. Expected salary, dependent upon experience and location is between $65,000 and $90,000 USD which includes base and bonus (if applicable).
