Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking to add a talented Junior Environmental Scientist or Engineer  to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. 

 

At Dillon, we operate as one team, and this full-time position is available from Dillon's Windsor, Ontario office.

Responsibilities:

What your day will look like

 

Field Activities

  • Coordinate and complete field programs for contaminated sites projects, including Phase I, II & III Environmental Site Assessments, hydrogeological investigations, soil/groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapour sampling programs, and contaminated site remediation projects.
  • Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, among others in paper and digital formats.
  • Completion of activities including preparation of sampling plans, collection and compilation of field data, digital geo-referenced data, and completion of field notes.
  • Contribution to environmental monitoring tasks on construction and industrial sites.
  • Assist in preparation of  environmental assessment reports, including: compilation and analysis of data, borehole logs and test pit logs.
  • Assist with designated hazardous substance surveys including asbestos and lead sampling and assist in air emissions testing programs.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific equipment.
  • Ability to work remotely for up to two weeks.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision.

 

       Project Coordination 

  • Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders.
  • Assist in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, spreadsheets and figures.
  • Providing assistance to project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, biologists, technologists, etc.), with the opportunity to develop into a Project Manager.

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

  • Training required will be supplied on the job if not otherwise attained.
Qualifications:

What you will need to succeed

  • A degree in Geology, Geoscience, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science or a related environmental discipline.
  • Entry level to 2 years of experience in environmental consulting and/or related work experience.
  • Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental consulting and field work.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • A valid G driver’s license.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work remotely in the field for up to two weeks.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Eligibility to register as a P.Geo or P.Eng. (or member in training) will be an asset.
Experience:
  • Knowledge of Phased Environmental Site Assessments, remediation and/or hazardous building material surveys.
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations and guidelines, including Ontario Regulations 153/04 and 406/19.
  • Knowledge of field procedures relating to borehole drilling and monitoring well installation, soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater sampling, soil and groundwater remediation, construction monitoring and/or hazardous building material surveys. 
  • Proficient in data entry, data compilation and the management of databases.
  • Proficient in the writing of technical reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
