WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Duck Creek products are highly configurable and have layers of content and configuration that are overlaid on top of the software to create a customized and extensible product experience. The customer also creates and customizes this content and configuration into new layers. This is critical and a core part of the architecture of Duck Creek products. The content and configurations are created for geographies, regions, insurance types and so on. This content and config are created using various software tools and technologies and are deployed in an automated manner using CI/CD pipelines into the on-prem and cloud-based product deployments. They are tested with the various products using complex automated tests. The entire end to end flow is a complex technical and software development endeavor with different technologies and automation involved.

In this position, as Senior Director of Engineering for Global Content, you will own the development, delivery, testing, automation, deployment and all engineering aspects for creating multiple layers of content and config for all regions worldwide. You will manage multiple global teams (in the US, India and Europe) working on the product and be accountable for the quality, technology and ultimately the business outcomes and strategic objectives. You will also be expected to bring a strong aspect of innovation and Engineering thinking to create modern ways to build, test and deploy the content and config.

You will work directly with various global business teams, customer facing teams, partners/vendors and customers to understand the requirements, collaborate on the development and delivery of the business outcomes, support and ultimately make the customer successful.

You will manage multiple teams in the US, India and Europe and will directly manage leaders up to a Director level.

Primary/Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

  • Prior experience and passion for building, leading, and motivating highly collaborative teams to enable a large and diverse team of engineers across several key product portfolios.
  • Drive innovation across the portfolio to enable the next generation of disruptive experiences for the Insurance industry and large-scale insurance carriers
  • Drive transformation across the organization to improve value delivery to our internal and external customers
  • Partner with development teams to drive adoption of enabling technologies, architectures, platform, and cloud improvements
  • Lead the development of inner sourced tooling and technology and champion practices that support our transformation
  • Nurture the technical community within Duck Creek, leading by example, and inspiring Ducks to soar to new heights of excellence
  • Prioritize resources and initiatives based on impact and value delivery to the business

WHAT YOU’VE DONE:

  • You have a minimum of 15 years of experience in increasing roles in Software Engineering. You must have a background as a developer or automation engineer (having written code) earlier in your career. A background in program or product management is not a good fit for this role.
  • You must have been at least a few years of experience as a Director of Engineering or above level, managing one or more products. Experience managing senior managers or above is mandatory.
  • You must have strong domain experience in the Insurance industry.
  • You must have experience managing multiple teams globally. If you have only ever managed a single team, it may not be a good fit for this role.
  • Ability to listen, adapt and influence are essential; strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to coach, inspire and mentor other technical leaders.
  • You must have worked on enterprise products with heavy configurability and content layers involved. You must have deep understanding of what it means to develop highly configurable products with externalized configuration and content. This is a mandatory requirement.
  • You must be deeply technical and have experience in any major tech stack, like Java/J2ee, .Net etc.
  • You must have strong experience with cloud technologies and cloud native Saas products and architectures.
  • You must have experience with databases (Oracle or SQL Server preferred), DevOps.
  • You must be currently in a role where you are deeply involved in design and architecture. You are not expected to write code, but you need to be able to dig down and work with developers, as well as create innovative Engineering ideas and solution to the table.
  • You must have recent experience with a product with complete automation testing. Experience and technical knowledge of modern automation testing tools and techniques for UI, API and services testing automation is important. Experience automating CI/CD pipelines are an advantage.
  • You must have managed both Dev and QA teams. Experience managing DevOps engineers and scrum masters is a major advantage.
  • You must have experience working with vendors supplying contractors and must have created and negotiated SOWs and other vendor agreements.
  • You must be a strong people leader, having managed teams remotely and globally.
  • You must have experience with complex agile processes and have worked in environments with large scale agile implementations. Experience with SaFe is an advantage.
  • You must have a strong sense of enterprise product business and must have exhibited strategic thinking skills in your prior jobs. Specific examples where you have achieved success through business acumen and strategic thinking would be expected during interviews.
  • You must have experience hiring engineering talent globally for remote roles.
  • You must have worked with teams, colleagues and customers in the US. Work experience in the US at any leadership level is a major advantage.
  • You must have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • You must have worked for enterprise product companies in the recent past. A history of working primarily in service companies is not a good fit for this role.

WHAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW:

During the interview process, you will be given situations or skills that are required for this role, for which you will be asked to demonstrate the depth of your skill. Examples include ‘technical deep dive’, ‘customer obsession’, ‘delivering results’, ‘insisting on highest standards’. • Work Authorization: Legally authorized to work in the country of the job location.
