The Dahlman Lab at the School of Medicine within the department of Biomedical Engineer is seeking an Assistant Professor CRT who will Lead efforts in cutting-edge competitive research programs in mRNA-nanoparticle therapies. This person who will help design, conduct research, and perform a wide range of highly technical and complex research duties while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance the professional and technical skills needed for pursuit of an independent career in research. The candidate will have documented scientific achievements and will continue to pursue external sponsored research opportunities to grow their own research portfolio and transition into more senior roles. Research on characterizing mRNA-nanoparticle therapies by designing and characterizing the safety, efficacy, scalp, and translation of nanoparticle chemistries. This work will ultimately result in the delivery and development of new applications for mRNA and other RNA-based drugs. The drugs may consist of vaccines, gene replacement therapies, mRNA-encoded antibodies, CRISPR gene editing therapies, and others. The focus of the programs will be on extrahepatic delivery, and will therefore require both de-targeting the liver and increasing delivery to other tissuesPrepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment.

 

Job requirements:

  • The Assistant Professor CRT performs a wide range of highly technical and complex research duties and has documented scientific achievements and increasing technical, management, leadership, and professional expertise necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research and experimental platforms for analyzing, design and interpreting results Investigates and recommends potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results of basic and/or translational research.
  • Demonstrates increased responsibility through management of teams and leadership of scientific projects by applying advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development, as well as facilitating in some training aspects of other team members.
  • Aids in writing IACUC, IRB, Biosafety and other approval documents.
  • Oversees quality assurance of research conducted by other team members.
  • Will identify and pursue research grant funding opportunities as a Principal Investigator and other funding applications as necessary and appropriate, and/or have full responsibilities for specific areas of instrumentation or methodology development and user support.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required.

Additional Job Details: Experience developing lipid nanoparticles for non-liver mRNA therapies is important.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or MD in engineering, biology, chemistry, medicine, applied mathematics, or the natural sciences- required by the start of the appointment. Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.
  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.
  • NOTE: Applicants applying with a M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications.

 

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
